Sea Dart Question
What color are they? I've seen photos of them painted red with a blue booster, or painted all white. The white ones I've seen labeled as Falklands era warshots, so are the red ones exercise shots?
(Just got a 1/700 scale Type 42 and I want to paint the missiles right.) |
I think the Red ones are training versions. I just came across this on Hazegrey (Bristol class):
http://www.hazegray.org/navhist/rn/d...l/bristol2.jpg Another port-quarter view, this time from aft. The aft dome for the Type 909 tracker radar can be seen, with the twin Sea Dart launcher at the head of the landing deck. A red dummy Sea Dart missile is mounted on the starboard launch rail. Note the twinned aft funnel. M.D. Thomas photo. Although the missile that is 'launched' in this video, is also a white colour missile: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JFDu-2aMfg This site also has the Reds as a 'dummy' missile: http://smcclearn.smugmug.com/Navy/Ha...3_DmvY4/Medium And this confirms it: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/l...hp/t53060.html "One other thing, live Sea Dart missiles are white, the red missiles are harbour display dummies." |
