Tuna Boat, Milne Bay, Papua New Guinea, 1942

I'm new to the game and part of my interest at the moment is in looking at what the Japanese saw from their subs in the Solomons. Just to get started on that I loaded up OMv720p5 and accidently dumped a IIB uboat off Milne Bay in Sept 1942 where he was checked by a Tuna boat from his mission of sinking a (somewhat anachronistic) LST.

Three questions:

What Uboat is most like a Japanese I-boat or RO boat?

How effective are the SC-type Tuna boats?

Is there a mod that lets the player run a Japanese sub or other ship?

Yup, I think it missed the official 1st commission of an LST by about 3 months.

Welcome abroad.:D Sorry, I never played a U-Boat.
I think there are mods for certain IJN vessels that can be found in the Downloads section (on the tab above). Sorry I don't have a link handy.

The Type IX is probably the closest to a Japanese I-Boat in size anyway. In terms of it's structural strength diving time, manueverability underwater, and maximum depth probably far better in many respects. No built in float plane and hanger though. :03:

Thanks! I'll try the type IX for a simulated I-boat experience.

Good luck!

Too bad you can't have the Japanese torpedoes. The best in the war by all accounts.

Well, in the world of simulations, one takes what one can get.

I remember how happy I was to find that there was a flyable Gladiator in IL-2, but only for the Roumanians.

I'll just assume the Japanese are unusually unlucky when I'm their Captain.
