I'm not new to DW, but just can't figure it out.
I have owned Dangerous Waters and the above sims for a long time. I never got into Dangerous Waters. I read the manual, I watched the tutorials, I even read some online guides and I learned:
1) What the buttons do 2) The Tutorials are almost useless 3) Most guides on the internet are written poorly 4) Most guides I have seen on the internet are full of useless information I need to know if there are people about who would have the patience to tlak me through at least one mission with the DW. I fail every time. Even the one stars. I know where to sail, and what to do to finish, but it always says I fail, or I die. |
Well, a good start for a lot of us would be for you to describe what you are doing in a mission. What platform are you playing? What sensors are you using? Where are you trying to get? How fast are you going? How deep are you?

It took me a couple years to get the hang of the game after purchasing it. Then again, I never had tutorial videos or a manual to help me. Hey, if I can figure it out, then you can. Good luck. ;)

I picked up Dangerous Waters pretty fast. Then again, I had played Sub Command and before that, 688i Hunterkiller. 688i had a FANTASTIC tutorial in it's manual. Once I had mastered that, it was just a hop skip and a jump to most other platforms.
There are a LOT of Dangerous Waters guides here that might help: http://www.subguru.com/downloads.html You definitely came to the right place to ask your questions. :salute: Like the above post states, if you could tell us what parts you don't understand, we could help more. Another way of doing things is to meet up with one of us in a multiplayer scenario (maybe start out with one that has no enemy vessels) and work on tracking single or multiple targets, then work on torpedoing one, and work your way up. You know, A Dangerous Waters live tutor program would definitely be a benefit to the community. |
I read the manual alot, take a few written notes, stick to learning 1 system at a time ( yes I will die but I am not doing this to win ) and use the "Show Truth" feature alot so I can see if my plots are correct.
I started with the P3, then the helo, then the Frigate Then its just practice practice practice It would be nice if there was a Frigate vs friendly nuke and vs friendly diesel sub mission I needed more time to learn things brfore the enemy torps were in the water This place was a big help to me. I had the sim for years but was doing things wrong ( at times ) and didnt know what to change ( yes no longer a steen-king swabbie ) |

This is what you should read :
The first 2 are an absolute read, they give the basis and then some more for naval tactics and manual tma. No one started this game with everything learned. :) |
Ok trying the tips
I have been following the tips. I have been reading the manuals and started playing sub command to get myself ready for dw. Having a great time with sub command. The ice maze mission was fun. Hit my first torpedo target last night. Need some practice on tma. Fired one fish and sank it, but my range was too long by about 100 meters. Dunno how I hit, but it did and I was pleased. Thanks for getting me started. Now I have something other than WWII subs to drive. :D
