Allentown, Pennsylvania, Neighborhood Rocked by Deadly Gas Explosion

A natural gas explosion and fire in Allentown, Pa., claimed the lives of at least five people, including a 4-month-old child, and 79-year-old. Investigators say there are still two people missing.

Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski told reporters today, "This has been a very difficult, rough, 12 hour-period for the victims of this tragedy and their families. Their lives have been turned upside-down. Our thoughts, our prayers go out to the families affected by this horrible tragedy, especially the families of those who lost loved ones."

:hmmm:

Oh, I didn't even hear the explosion, but I live about 15 miles outside of the city. I'm upwind, so I didn't smell anything either. Sorry I don't have a more exciting story than that. :O:

It's all over the news here, obviously. Very sad about the missing and the dead.

But your loved ones and relatives are ok?

Oh, they're fine. The rest of my family lives in New Jersey, Maine, Maryland and Texas. I'm the only one that lives anywhere near Allentown. My wife works at a local hospital, but she had no problems today.

OK! Good, but sad for those affected in all these kinds of situations.

Takeda Shingen 02-10-11 05:53 PM

Absolutely. It is very sad for a lot of people. There's been two or three other explosions in the city proper over the past few years. Somebody's got to do something, but nothing happens in Allentown. Of the 'twin cities', it's Bethlehem that you want to live in, not Allentown.

Another issue that cropped up some time ago,are Fullerton located in the city?

Takeda Shingen 02-10-11 06:02 PM

Yep, Fullerton's right next to LVIA. Part of it is within the city limits.

I have a friend who reportedly will reside there, but I have not been to Allentown, but maybe make a visit in the near future,it is near the airport, I guess you can rent a car to get there relatively quickly.

Yes, you can rent a car, and it is right next to the airport. I was going to ask how you knew about an obscure little place like Fullerton.

There is a history that spans 22 years, and he and my younger sister had an "affair" but they lived in New Jersey and in Manhattan, NC, and I worked here and there and we met some here in Sweden but accor task should he be married and have at least one child .... the rest I'll soon find out, but it could be difficult this year to be away from work, then there is a lot going on now

Pipe 'Imperfection' Found After Fatal Pennsylvania Blast

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Investigators looking into the cause of a gas explosion that killed five people in Allentown, Pa., last week are focusing on an "imperfection" in a pipe near the blast site.

Wednesday night's explosion flattened a pair of row houses and set fire to a block of homes, killing five people — including a 4-month-old boy and a 16-year-old girl.

On Saturday, investigators told The Morning Call of Allentown they were zeroing in on an abnormality in a section of pipe.
