Can anybody explain?
hi there, i had like to show some in the hope to understand what is hapening.
i use DW + 1.4Patch and http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/1327/gmee.jpg I have noticed that other mods do have loads of other units to control. Saw some T-95's in the picture thread (DWX if i recall correct, will try it later) Anyway, this is what i have for the folowing. Question: How is this pissible: http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/484/ssdwffg.jpg What we have 1) I use the FFG (1001) and the MH-60 (0007 HELO 1) 2) several SB's - number 1 is an DISCASS S droped by the FFG - number 4 is an DISCASS S droped by the MH-60 I made a sreen shot when contact 1015 (trawler) was reported, seconds later contact 1016 (SUB) came in. Why am i surspised? * The FFG had its passive sonar (hull sonar turned on) i do 10 knt and 1015 is not over 150 degrees on my stb brearing * I have my ADT + SDT turned on. So my ADT should have spotted contact 1015, the trawler * towed array is extended, no contact was detected * SB number 1 does not pick up the contact 1015 and 1016 while this one is the closest..... Most surpising is that the ADT from the FFG and SB #1 from the FFG did not pick up the surface contact #1015. What am i doing wrong? Pls give your take on this. Ayee :salute: |
ADT = SPS 49 Air Search Radar.
It will not detect surface ships. Anyways its slightly possible that the sound rays were bouncing in a surface duct and "missed" the buoy. With out an SSP its hard to know for sure what was going on with SONAR. In those shallow waters your TA was possibly dragging. The SQS-56 in Passive mode is very poor (Give it a break, its old; from 1977!). Its passive mode is meant for torpedo warning and evasion. Active mode is what its better at, but detection ranges are still short. This is because its meant to be a low quality system; the Perrys are low in High-Low (The Spruances were the High), since the FFG-7 was not armed with ASROC it was determined back then that a long range hull sonar was not needed. |
One thing I have to point out right away is that since the sonobuoy contact may be passive and therefore bearing only, 1015 might be off-screen to the south and beyond the radar horizon.
For the same reason, buoy 1 might have 1015 as either contact 1013 or 1014 I also can't rule out from the screenshot that the FFG has 1015 as 1007 as a towed array, visual, ESM, or surface radar contact. Assuming none of these contacts correspond to 1015, I would blame towed array and acoustics autocrew for being inconsistent, and I'd blame the size and aspect of the trawler for the radar not getting it. For my money, based only on the screenshot, 1013, 1015, 1007, and link contact 0013 are the same contact (notice how the 1013 and 1015 bearing lines, as well as 0013's bearing from the helicopter, intersect at the solution 1007) and 1014 and 1016 are the same distant ship to the southeast (or are the FFG itself). |
Hey, both much apreciated,
TLAM, i was thinking to write you a PM 2 point out the question but then thought, nah, he will find it anyway. Sorry for my mistake, with ADT I meant SDT. My TA was indeed dragging I noticed, I did wind it up a bid to avoid to do so, but did not wind it up 2 much to avoid interference of my own screws. Quote:

Could it be possible that the 1013 contact is in fact me? When can a SB determine the distance? I prefer the use of DISCAS since it has active options. I do like these since they do not give away my position as it is just a SB. Guess it’s a bit long, but I am looking forward to your take on these issues, they will be much appreciated! Ayee |

The Freedom class LCS is in LWAMI 3.10. Quote:

To get range, you can: (1) get passive contacts from different angles on the contact--the contact's position is where the bearing lines intersect. Use the range circle tool to get the range from your platform to that position. (2) go to the acoustics station, switch a DiCASS buoy to active mode, enable the buoy, and mark the active contact. The contact displayed on the NAV map will be at the range it was detected. |
