State multiculturalism has failed, says David Cameron

David Cameron has criticised "state multiculturalism" in his first speech as prime minister on radicalisation and the causes of terrorism.

At a security conference in Munich, he argued the UK needed a stronger national identity to prevent people turning to all kinds of extremism.

He also signalled a tougher stance on groups promoting Islamist extremism.

The speech angered some Muslim groups, while others queried its timing amid an English Defence League rally in the UK.

As Mr Cameron outlined his vision, he suggested there would be greater scrutiny of some Muslim groups which get public money but do little to tackle extremism.

IMO I don't think that Britain has a problem with multiculturalism and such, I think 95% of the problems with terrorism are based in politics, not peoples abilities to blend and mix with other cultures. He just can't see this as he's blinded by the sun shining out of his arse :O:

Well done Mr Cameron:nope:

Whats that? 4 million unemployed, the end of the minimum wage, privatization of the NHS and so on.

Dave struts around while Clegg pecks at his arse.

When Nick Griffin comes out and says it's a provocative statement, you know you're doing something wrong :haha:

Too true Oberon, trouble is labour are becoming a load of toffs. Granted not upper class but middle to middle-upper class.

Its quite funny when this week here on this forum there has been a topic about the complexities of history and the large mixes and seperations of the multiple cultures of the UK/GB and all its constituent parts.
Given that most of the people in that topic were British of different flavours could they point out what they think is the national identity which Cameron wants to build upon?

Lord_magerius 02-05-11 09:29 PM

There is no real answer to the national identity, but the one Cameron wants to build on is the middle and upper class sense of being British.
"I know people are poor, but I need my pastry cook. For god's sake, can't I even have a biscuit anymore?"

That's the sort of person Cameron's and the conservatives policies are favouring. Yeah I wouldn't mind so much if I was working probably. But I'm one of the millions on benefits (and unlike some tossers I'm actually looking for a job) and knowing that they are to be reduced, just to aid in sorting out the deficit. I'm on £35 a week and that could be cut in half in the near future. So yeah, £17.50 is a perfectly manageable sum to work with... of course.... C***:dead:

you're becoming america. how does it feel?

There was once a time when the powerful in this country gave a damn about the poor, or even the common man, but i think thats long gone. Men today seem to only stand to line their pockets or their friends' pockets. I watched some of Ted Kennedy's speeches of late. lawmakers like that are a vanishing breed.
