Many submarine pictures, different countries
Found this cool site while looking up the Virginia class subs. They've got a lot of pics of not only your standard countries' subs, but others as well such as Norway and Japan. Cool stuff.
Enjoy!! :salute: http://www.militarypictures.info/submarines/ (no actual Virginia pics there tho. only found this :: http://media.defenseindustrydaily.co...ruction_lg.jpg :: from here :: http://www.defenseindustrydaily.com/...sed-bow-04159/ ) EDIT: also this interesting illustration :: http://media.defenseindustrydaily.co...Cutaway_lg.jpg EDIT EDIT: And according to here, there are 5 Virginias in service currently :: http://www.sublant.navy.mil/VirginiaClass.htm ... ... wikipedia says there's 7 in service :: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virginia_class_submarine EDIT EDIT EDIT: Also found an odd discrepancy in pics of Virginias. Most I found look like this :: http://blogs.courant.com/on_backgrou...0Hampshire.jpg but I also found this place, where the sail is rounded over and looks more like a Russian sail to me ... but somehow the image also looks photoshopped ... yet the site claims this is THE Virginia (which I know it's not). Anyone know what this actually IS? :: http://www.alphapatriot.com/wp-conte...iaClassSub.jpg |
That picture of the Virginia with the rounded sail is definitely a photoshop. an interesting concept, but not a real one in the slightest
|
yeah, it does and doesn't look photoshopped. the water streams are quite well done if it is. it IS a semi-typical Russian style sail ala Akula, Mike, or Alpha ... so maybe it actually IS a Russian sub.
speaking of Russian subs, some interesting info here :: http://www.hazegray.org/worldnav/russia/submar.htm trying to look up pics of the most modern of modern Russian subs now ... ;) |
The "Virginia" with the rounded sail is fake, 100%. The hull of the submarine in the picture is real and is an American sub, possibly 688, but has that Russian looking sail added over the picture. I use this site here as a reference for my work with the modern subs project. http://www.navsource.org/ Lots of good pictures there. Also SubLants' and wikis' numbers match 7&7.
