While it's true that no one had to literally pay for anything, the newest and best goodies went first to captains with the best reputation, hence the most 'pull' with the higher-ups. That is the purpose of renown in the game.

I have my doubt that this happened in the real life. The main objective was to win the war, not to showoff in ports. So there is no point in not having access to all the weaponry and technology available. If I suck, I die.. thats the only difference between the captains.

Just because something seems logical to us, doesnt apply to the politics at work inside the higher command of the German commanders of WWII. As a matter of fact, we can all thank the german high command for some famous blunders, large and small, that attributed to the victory of the allies in WWII.

Anyway, while a fun discussion that could be, I like this mod because you can at least use silentotto and outfit your boat if you choose to start a different campaign. From there, I assume you can then disable the mod, making future upgrades cost renown.

And PS thankyou for crediting me, but this was info i found already on some other thread in subsim, so actually someone else here really deservers it, cant find the thread though.

Happy Hunting friends.
