Damn Supermarket staff!

I picked up several items this morning and when I finally got up to the checkout, one of the items would not scan.

Imagine my horror when the checkout operator got on the intercom and boomed out for the entire store to hear, 'PRICE CHECK ON LANE THIRTEEN, TAMPAX, SUPER SIZE.'

You would think that was bad enough, but some wally at the rear of the store apparently misunderstood the word 'Tampax' for 'THUMBTACKS.'

In a businesslike tone, a voice boomed back over the intercom: 'DO YOU WANT THE KIND YOU PUSH IN WITH YOUR THUMB OR THE KIND YOU POUND IN WITH A HAMMER?'

The checkout operator did not know where to look.

Fortunately the Manager came to my rescue and discreetly gave the price in whispers, while offering apologies to me.

I walked out of there with my head held high and as soon as I was at the door I heard raucous laughter coming from the counters behind me ...

It took me quite awhile to recover enough to drive home.

Next time the missus can get her own blardy personal goods!

I've worked in a grocery store for three years. Sometimes it's easy to tell what they are saying, other times it's a crapshoot. Sometimes we really can't tell who they are paging to pick up the phone for example.

Oh I know how you feel. Upset her a few months ago when she came up to visit and, after giving me a nice long death stare, told me that she was feeling tired that night and just wanted to sleep. Upon waking up the next morning she informed she would need me to go get some for her.

In the check-out I ran into one of my teammates who just raised an eyebrow in question.

I worked a checkout as one of my first jobs, and I had an experience like that!

There's perks living in a country with overpopulation issue. That kind of thing would not happen here. If the thing wouldn't scan the cashier would ask one of the employee to check the price manually to the rack and they seem to be everywhere in the supermarket right to checkout lines and some would help the cashier to put the good into the grocery bags

or

more often than not directly check the item listed price from the cashier workstation manually by searching for the index number.
