[WIP] Subnets
 
Following along with the work on Icebergs and mines I have made subnets available for use in the game. They can be included in campaigns and single missions.

As with the icebergs and mines, the subnets cannot be destroyed with bullets or torpedoes. Torpedoes go right through the net also :shifty: This has to be because the 3D model is located in a .dat file rather than a .GR2 file.

Your sub will collide with the nets and when it does it makes a collision noise. If you persist to 'get through' the net you will eventually but it will be VERY slow and you will make loud collision noises that can be heard over hydrophone. Think of your net cutters on the bow doing their job and cutting through the net when you're doing this.

Here is a shot of 3 subnets from the Total Germany campaign. This is just to show that they can be added to campaigns. You'll find these 3 just past the mouth of the harbor:

they should. Just as when you collide with anything it makes noise and everyone nearby hears it. Do a test mission and see.

Of course this is a best idea... but at the other thread someone works at mod to put uboat directly on the sea floor.
Do you think that the noise when uboat is moving over the sea floor is possible to do and create it as "possible to hear" by escort ships?

just did a test mission to see if escort could hear you hitting subnet....he couldn't :nope: BUT I know why :DL The collision sound has no underwater component and it doesn't have a sonar target associated with it. Trying to rectify now :yep:

just looking into coastal defenses and noticed that they are already in SH5! They even have GR2 models :D We just need to add Roster entries for countries other than Germany and we can add coastal defenses to harbors.

Well that one was easy. What do you think about searchlights on the shore? :hmmm:

That would add some environment to the game, sounds great!

Subnets : Damage to the sub, what is the rate for hitting a net? Can they sink you?

I'm not exactly sure how much damage they inflict, if any at all :hmmm: Probably some damage as you are coliding with a (HUGE mass wise) ship in disguise as a subnet.

Travelling out from bunker at night and serch lights come on when enemy bombers appear :rock: Air raid sirens connected to the search lights :rock:

Yes, most likely they would just hang up a sub causing grief and nothing more.

DPMS model...2 X 30 round clips...chambered for .223 and 5.56 rounds (military)...Beautiful weapon...ultimate in home defense, varmint hunting, small/medium game. Just learned that 30-06 AP ammo is not illegal to buy/own in US....now have to locate some :D

From my work on importing SH3/4 ships into SH5 I've figured out how the game determines the damage/collision model. From this knowledge the subnets now don't let the sub or anything else for that matter pass through them :rock: Torpedoes are now stopped by the subnets :|\\

This (along with destroyable mines) will make Zedi a happy man as he is adding them to the campaign.

awsome... that means we can destroy the mines with torpedoes also?
