Dunno about the politics, but I always liked how he appeared to not really take himself too seriously (see his list of films).

I still think one of his best film lines comes from Conan The Barbarian (for me the best realisation of R. E. Howard's mythic character - arnie is conan). And that's funny, because according to legend Arnie was originally asked to play the hero, Kyle Reese, but said he'd rather be the 'bad guy'.

But I agree. In the original he was perfect. In fact the whole movie was perfect, being as it was a closed loop which needed no sequels.

In Arnie's first movie they thought his accent was so bad they dubbed him. There are lots of clips from that awful movie, but most of them are from the rerelease, with Arnold's real voice. Even though it's only one line, this was the only clip I could find of the movie as I originally saw it.
