The piece of paper that fooled Hitler

Quote:

It was an audacious double-cross that fooled the Nazis and shortened World War II. Now a document, here published for the first time, reveals the crucial role played by Britain's code-breaking experts in the 1944 invasion of France.

Juan Pujol Garcia isn't exactly what you think of when you think of a super spy:

The guy had brass ones, though. That's for sure.

There is a lot written about GARBO, one of the most successful and prolific double-cross agents used. Much of his good work only worked because, like most agent handlers in Germany, they didn't want to believe they could make a mistake and have been so gullible, and so continuously pushed through reports that, with hindsight, were unbelivable.

For balls, I think GARBO and ZIGZAG are on a par :yep:, both pushed for their jobs and both, initially, not wanted by the XX-committee.

Thanks for highlighting this, it's good to see a piece of their actual work :yeah:

An MBE and the Iron Cross.

I find this hilarious; think somebody was embarrassed a wee bit when this story got out?
