Monday I start a new chapter in my life...
Monday I go back to school and begin my freshman year of college. I'm taking a course to get a A.A.S. degree in Visual Communications Technology (Graphic Arts/Printing). 64 credit hours in all, 15 this semester.
This semester I'm taking English, Math, Intro to 2D Graphics, Astronomy, and WWII History. Taking the Sci and His courses to try and pad my GPA my first year since I already know quite a bit about those subjects (very little of it from schooling HA!). I just got my books Friday: Victory at Stalingrad Benito Mussolini: The First Fascist Harlem at War: the Black experience of WWII (guess they have to appease the minorities...) Major Problems in the History of WWII The Cosmos: Astronomy in the new millennium (most expensive book I got; $119 used) Enhanced InSite for Composition (a online thing for English instead of books) A Survey of Mathematics with Applications Student's Solutions Manual (for above) (About $300 in all, paid for by a Pell Grant which also covers all my tuition etc this semester.) |
Jeebus. The Pell grant covered less than half of my tuition when I was in. Still owe major dollars on student loans. Meh. :shifty:
I can't imagine why you would be majoring in Graphic Arts, TLAM. :O: No electives in freelance intel? :-? All kidding aside: Congratulations, TLAM. You hold a lot of promise with those skills of yours. :) |
Have fun, study hard, and good luck! :salute:

It's a challenge, enjoy it! :shucks:

Feuer, aside from the core classes of English, history, govt, etc. the degree includes a broad array of studies, such as economics, hospitality law, HR, 16 hours of accounting and finance, business calculus, several culinary classes (I got to play with knives!), and a lot of business and management classes. Oh, and leadership, facilities & operations, and food safety (that got me ServSafe certified). I took 8 hours of Chemistry as my science. The one class that they seem to have overlooked, psychology as it relates to guest relations, that would really be nice.
The degree program is here. College website is here. |

You may also want see how far the financial aid will take you, credit hour wise. Here in Frederick County (Maryland) they pay for 96 credit hours towars your A.A at a community college. Which basically means, I could take whatever I wanted as long as I finish the curriculum and get the degree with these 96 credits. As for the text books, we try to either get used ones, older editions or 'International' editions. That cuts down the cost tremendously. |
Study hard, play harder :yeah:
|
Best of luck for your studies, and I hope it doesn't interfere too much with your forum activity here!
