Can't minimize SH3
 

This one is really getting on my nerves: I simply can't minimize SH3 to the taskbar, or otherwise get to another window, no how, no way. If I want to do anything else, I have to completely quit the game.

Neither the usual "Desktop" combo (Windows key + D) nor Alt + Tab nor Alt + Enter does the job. The most that happens is: there's a brief flicker of the taskbar at the bottom of the screen, and of the list of apps I can Alt + Tab through in the middle of the screen. Mouse focus is taken away from SH3. But since SH3 is still taking up the display, I can't actually do anything with any other app. I have to keep hitting Alt + Tab until I return mouse & keyboard focus to SH3.

This is a pain. Load times are fairly long with all the mods I'm using, and I'd like to browse the web or whatnot while I wait.

Running in a window is not an option. The window will only run at 1024x768, which is too small on my 1600x1200 desktop (21" monitor).

I use 2 displays. I have tried turning off the second one, but it doesn't make any difference in the problem.
Is there any way to fix this?

Are you using the XP res fix to scale SH3 to your monitor? If so, unfortunately you won't be able to minimize or alt-tab. I don't know of any way to fix this, and it will also mean you can't use FRAPS either.

OK, that explains it. Nobody mentioned that before. Yes, I'm using the res fix to run SH3 at full, glorious 1600x1200.

I guess I'll just work around it. I've been keeping a book nearby to read during those loooooong loads.

Yeh books are a must, keeps you sane. I also use the res fix on my 22" Samsung, thankfully I have a laptop handy to do other stuff on when I'm on patrol, much better than that Enigma thingy they gave me in port, can't even get facebook on that...

You already chopped off a leg I think.

If you're running in windowed mode, Ctrl-alt-delete then right click the app name (not the process list, but the first tab) and you can minimize SH3 from there. Just figured it out, again.

Strangely, I can minimize/Alt+Tab away from SH3 under Windows 7, no problem.

Also, I'm not 100% sure, but it seems as if load times for both the game and saved missions has dropped dramatically.

These are unexpected benefits of the move from Windows XP to Windows 7.
