Squashed Nav Map
Hi,
Can anyone tell me why the nav map is squashed down vertically? All the icons appear as squares and circles so the resolution is fine, but the land masses all look like I've sat on them at some point. Is this a crude attemp to make it look like you're standing at a table looking at it from an ange? Is it an attempt to make more of the world fit on a sheet of paper? (despite the navigation screen isn't really on a table, nor is it a sheet of paper so therefore is daft. Or is it something else? Rob. |

if it's that, then how do Google Maps (not Google Earth) manage to show a flat world without such a degree of distortion?
Or is it just a case of Google do it one way, Ubisoft do it another and never the two shall meet. |
I would imagine that google maps uses a Point of view directly over a curved surface, and only flattens it out when you have zoomed far back.
It looks like they are using a different projection. If you notice, the landmass of Antarctica is more than the rest of the world's landmasses combined. Same with the arctic ocean, which dwarfs the Pacific on that map. |
Ahh, okay...
And to think, a week and a bit ago, I was but a simple man. Now I know about Submarines, mined coastlines, torpedo mechanisms and now the various techniques they use to render the surface of the Earth to a flat image. Interesting times. Cheers. |
