Go see True Grit

If you see any movie in the next week... True Grit should be it.

more faithful to the novel than the 1969 version, this version shows some of the dark reality of late 1800s frontier town / western life broken up by a generous amount of humorous moments and dialogue. It is set in the scenery described in the novel (western Arkansas, Eastern Oklahoma "Choctaw nation") where the original 69 film was set in Coloradoesque landscapes.

Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon's ribbing exchanges are the stuff of legendary male bravado comedic dialogue. The shootings and stabbings are satisfyingly brutal (one very nice point blank head shot) and the relationship of the characters develops quite well over time.

One major theme in the novel was the relative disliking or disapproval the trio had of one another at the beginning of their journey and how they eventually grew a mutual respect for one another through their interactions during their journey. The film remains true to this theme and comes through clearly.

Its a great film and one that will be added to my DVD collection the moment it is available.

Saw Spoony listed it as one of his top 10 movies to see this year. Think I have a look. :hmmm:

Hey Castout. It never was meant to imply the word fag. In the clip it was F.A.G. The film actors guild. Sorry it upset you. I am not an unpolished rough person. I have 21 years of military service to my country and I do not judge anyone. I just laugh at those actors who have a rough opinion of our military policy but will take a high paying job in the film industry portraying characters in the military or as characters killing people. Yes I will see the movie. I really liked the original True Grit. As far as SPAM. Yes Sir I have had my share of Spam, Sardines, Beenie Weeinies, C-Rats, and MRES. Please advise me as to how you are a polished person so I can utilize and pass on your skills to my USMC troops and friends.

As for the video people who use the word fag to label people are the true fag themselves imo :haha:..well maybe not but obviously they may be suffering from psychopathic tendencies or leading egocentric, hedonistic life lacking empathy. I'd call them brute rough. Like all things men included there are just unpolished rough people....not everybody is a gentleman or ladies I guess

I keep reading the threat title as True Git:haha:

Armistead 12-26-10 10:58 PM

Jeff is a great actor, can't wait to see it, got tickets already, just snowed in at the moment.

Weiss Pinguin 12-26-10 11:14 PM

Saw it a few days ago, definitely worth the price. Lots of great moments throughout :yep:

Incidentally the title of this thread is exactly what I said in a facebook post right after I saw the movie :haha:
