CTD's

Anybody else getting random CTD's while playing the game? Really starting to p*** me off. Anyone else getting this issue?:damn:

Matador.es 12-21-10 04:48 AM

have you tried to turn off all MOD's for a patrol?

Might be a bit rigorous, but if that solves the problem the cause will be in one of the MOD's 4 sure. From there it would be trail and error.

Happens often for me, I usually make a save mid patrol, Windows 7 64

More on CTD's

I am getting them regularly. I have uninstalled all mods and even the game which works for a while. The latest CTD's are strange as they are occurring at the same time as strange behaviour by Hunter Killers groups in the bay of Biscay. This started after a quite successful patrol around Rockhall when I ran into the HK group on the way back whilst surfaced in the bay running the game at x 2xxx and I got sunk. I reloaded the game to a save before I got sunk and have had nothing but trouble since. I was un naturally shadowed inbound and suffered a few ctd's but eventually made it to base. Now I am outbound I am still being un naturally shadowed by HK groups almost as if it is a bug in the game. So far one ctd but I am still only in the bay of Biscay. I am running IRAI and it's only 1940.

I've been getting them a lot. Just got the game so I'm not happy about it. I tried reinstalling and running a mission with no mods adn I still get them.

They are of two varieties:

1. Game CTDs and then the computer immediately shuts off. Doesn't reboot.

2. The game shuts off, I see the ubisoft game launcher window which tells me it is synchronizing saves and then the launcher shuts off. For no reason. Would this be related to the dreaded DRM?

My system
Windows XP 32bit
C2D e6700 (2.66Ghz)
9800GT (1gb)
3GB Ram

Anything obviously underpar for this game that could be causing the CTDs?

You need the Sub AI no ctd fix probably .

I'm getting the same. Game shuts off and I then stare at the ubi game launcher synchronizing saves.
Real pain.

Happens with or without MODs if I remember correctly.

Sober, thx for the link. Are you suggesting the prob is an enemy sub in the vicinity? Also, isn't this fix included in Magnum_Opus 001 & its Patch2?

Yes it is.

I've had lots of problems with CTDs which I assumed was due to mod soup. However I've found that if I run without the 3GB switch enabled, then so far no CTDs. I am using 32bit XP.

I can't be certain about this yet, but as of late I have not had any CTDs when the 3GB switch has not been enabled, but plenty when it has. Might still be coincidence though. Personally I'd rather live with the disappearing harbour syndrome than CTDs.

Ah ha! That could be it. I'm running the 3GB switch too. I'll try tonight without and see if I get less CTDs. If not I'll try the AI sub fix.

Herr Minger 03-18-11 07:21 AM

Excuse my ignorance but what is the 3gb switch. I understand that 32bit systems only see around 3gb of system memory but I am not aware of a switch.

Also will the conflict between no halos and the environment mod cause my ctd's?

Here is something to try for those of you having CTDs or using 32 bit OS:

Try this only if you have at least 2 GByte of RAM and at your own risk and using Vista/Win7 32 bit version.
First download the explorer from http://www.ntcore.com/exsuite.php
Next make a backup copy of SH5.exe. Then start "CFF Explorer" and open the orginal SH5.exe file.
Now go to NT Header/File Header and click File Header. There you will find a button labeld "click here". Click it and select the mark at "App can handle> 2gb adressest "
Save the modified EXE, overwrite the orginal one (You do have your backup of it in a safe location right?).
If you run Windows Vista 64 or Windows XP 64 or Win7 64 you're ready and didnt need to read on. The rest is only for Windows Vista 32/Win7 32 or maybe Windows XP.
Now make Windows Vista/Win7 (32-Bit) ready to support more than 2 GByte.
Open a command prompt with Administration rights. You find it under "Programs->Accessories->Command prompt" click right and select "run as administrator".
Enter "bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVA 3072" (without quotes) in the command window and press enter.
After that restart windows

To reset back to 2GB limit:
to reset the Increased User Adressspace just start the commandline prompt with Admin right again and enter "bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVA 2048"

See if the above helps at all :yep:

Another idea is to install previous version of DirectX ( < v11). I have Win7 64bit but ALWAYS install previous DirectX versions for compatibility reasons. Go to Microsoft's website and search for DirectX. Run the DirectX web installer from their website. You can have DirectX9 AND DirectX11 installed on Win7.

EDIT:

just checked the sh5.exe file and it's large address aware so enabling the 3GB switch in 32bit OSs should help:

The conflict between halos and env mod has nothing to to with CTDs

That's a variation of what I did to my machine. To be honest, I can't remember how I made 3gigs available because I did it a year ago but to make it active, I have to restart my machine and select a different 3gig profile at bootup. Then when I check properties by clicking on "my computer" it shows me as having 3 gigs. I think the result is the same either way.

I'll turn it off tonight and see if I stop getting CTDs. I hope it does fix it because currently I'm getting CTDs WAY too often. Even worse than in SH4.

EDIT: Another thing I should mention is that I have the game installed on a second harddrive. Not my C drive were the operating system resides. Would this potentially cause problems? I have all my games installed on my second harddrive because it is larger but if I have to reinstall to the main/C drive then I will.

Herr Minger 03-22-11 08:31 AM

Stoianm, your solution seems to have worked so thank you. I am still perplexed by the odd behaviour of the Hunter Killer groups in the Bay of Biscay. Should they even be there in 1940?

One of them detaches from the main group and shadows at a constant distance no matter what heading I proceed on, but it does not close or attack.
