Sh3 Commander Malfunctions and Sabatoge
Quick question for you all. How does the Malfunctions & Sabatoge enabled in Sh3 work?? And what are precautions you all take to make sure nothing is malfunctioned or sabatoged?? Right now my thought is when I get out to deep enough sea I do a crash dive to say 200 meters (in a type VIIB) and stay there for a minute or so then resurface. What other tests do you guys run??
Oh and as to the 200 meters, since this brought up another question (Since I have hull integrity shown as off) when you hit around crush depth you can hear the creaking and stuff, but will you actually start taking physical damage (compartments turning color) one by one before you become crushed?? Or do you just hear creaking and groaning and your hull integrity goes down?? The reason being, is I want to know what I should be looking for to avoid being crushed when im trying to RS and RD. Hope that makes sense Kaleuns!:arrgh!: |
The crush depth on a VIIB is around 150M I think...In a type IXB I was depth charged pretty acurrately near the stern and began to sink backwards due to flooding. The crush depth on an IXB I think is around 170m, and I went straight to 197m and the boat was making some nauseating sounds...Absolutely horrifying, but my engineer began giving me vocal warnings, and I never did start taking damage to any other compartments and what not.
Sadly, I don't know if you start taking damage along the ship's compartments or if you're just squashed instantly once you spend too much time at crush depth. :-? |
I have started to take minor damage when I went pretty deep. You do get a little warning.
|
You'll know you've gone too deep when light bulbs start breaking. :yep:
EDIT: From there it's not long before you start a new career. :haha: |
And what is pretty deep, for you? for me it is around 220-230 meters in an IXC as an example

I have taken a VIIb to about 200m I think, don't remember exactly how far, but I started taking HI damage, and some flooding started. So I blew to the surface. |
VIIb to about 200m is much, intelligible to blow ballast, but I've been down in the deep as you describe and the crew starts talking parrot, :o

Thanks guys I think Im gonna test this out on my new career and waste a Kaleun :P I just need to be able to know what sounds to listen for that mean I can sit at that depth for a while (I was trying to stay under the thermobaric layer, I thought I was at least, because I sped away from destroyers making lots of noise at around 200m in AL69) or Im going to sink in a few seconds.
EDIT: But what about the malfunctions and sabatoge checks?? Anybody play with that checked in Sh3 Commander?? |
I don't play with that setting on. Yet.
SH3 doesn't model thermal layers I believe. |
Sabotage give you random damage that can happen at any given time. It suffers from being incompatible with several mods; while almost everyone uses SHC few can/do use the sabotage due to conflicts.
Once you've exceeded crush depth to the point that you do start taking damage the sound will be quite distinct in nature. Don't think that you are near any deep water in any of the academy exercises, only option to test it out and see what happens is to set course for deep water at flank speed and then set the depth to 250 and start slowing your descent once you hit 170-180. Besides the fireworks display the sound will have an "oh s***" flare to it and then you start to take damage. Just start a new career (that you'll quickly abandon) if you want to find out what it's like. |
I have this option checked and I do get various damages or mulfunctions like : 1. The attack periscope can not magnify to x10
2. Flank speed is not available. When I order ahead flank the speed drops to 2kts 3. I can not reload the flak guns as quickly as normal. 4. Fuel is spent at an alarming rate or I have a leak in my fuel tank. About dying of implosion after passing crush depth , you don't have time to react ,especially if your boat is already damaged. I have learned this the hard way : IXC depth 160m , hedgehog salvo lands right on the money , severe flooding aft and command room , depth 320m , ..........bye bye |

OP may want to take a look at this thread.

:har: Sabotage is also a great (old) music video from the Beastie Boys, much more enjoyable than the French crab infested ports. |
