The old "Can't get depth under keel" problem

Has anything been discovered yet to fix this? So far my searches have only brought up the work-around where you save your game and then reload it, but sometimes this doesn't work for days on end. When I can't get a depth under keel reading it seems that alot of verbal response don't work either, like when you flood a tube or fire a torpedo - I can live without that, but I need my depth under keel reading.

I just see a red "X"

I see from the properties of the link that it is supposed to lead to a download at a file sharing site, but I can't get it to work.

That was with Internet Explorer, with Firefox I don't even get the red "X"

I too am having the depth under keel problem. I was hoping someone would have an answer to this. It's ironic that Longam's reply is very similar to the depth under keel reply.

What, exactly, do you mean by "can't get depth under keel"? Do you not know how to access that information? Or, when you click on the button, or ask the navigator (if you're using the MCBD mod) that there is no response? :hmmm:

When you click on the button, or ask the navigator for depth of keel the response is "right away captain". A moment later you hear the ping but no voice reply or text. So there is no way to know where the bottom is. Very frustrating. With me some of the other voice responses quit working too. When I use the arrow keys for left and right rudder the boat will start to turn but I don't get a voice response to the command. I'm uncertain if my command is carried out.

that happens sometimes when I save a game.no voices at all and no messages in the message box.I reload that usually fixes it. If it doesn't- go back to port and start new patrol,but I have had to do that only a couple of times.reload usually works.

If the game is running at time compression higher than 32 you do lose the response to orders by your crew.
Other than that I don't know.

Hope this helps:salute:

I find the lack of response to my "Depth Under Keel" request so irritating, I make sure to test it as soon as a mission is loaded. If I get the response at that time I get it every time for the rest of that play session. If I don't get a depth under keel reading at the start I never get it for the rest of that session. By play session I mean from the time a mission loads until I exit to the menu or desktop.

By the way, when I don't get a "depth under keel" response, I don't get it on the message box either. See, it's not the lack of voice response that really bothers me too much, it's the fact that I get NO response at all and therefor don't know how deep I can go when I'm not in deep waters.

By the way, I've noticed this problem in stock SH5 as well as in modded SH5, so this is definitely an unsolved bug with no consistent workaround or fix yet available. Although, when I'm in a really shallow place like an enemy port, I'll go to external view as a desparate measure. I mean, I like external view for the pretty graphics, but not as an answer to a bug.

Try these TC settings and put them in your save game folder .
C:\Users\*****\Documents\SH5\data\cfg\main
TimeStop=0
RealTime=1
LandProximity=1,32
CriticalDamage=1,32
CrewEfficiency=256
AirEnemyDetected=1,32
SoundEffects=8
CharacterAnim=32
FriendDetected=1,32
EnemyDetected=1,32
RadioReport=1,32
Particles=32
PrayState=1,32
HunterState=1,32
3DRender=32
Maximum=256,32

Also if you use TDW UI mod make the message box drop down to 1X on any message .
# do we go to TC1 on any messagebox text?
# change below to either True or False
TC1OnAnyMessageBoxText = True

Apart from that i dont know , as i never had this problem .

also try these mods in this order
No magic skills v1.5 MCCD compatible
MightyFine Crew Mod 1.2.1 Alt faces
MCCD_1.04_MFCM_1.2.1_compatible
Speech fixes and additions (english version)

Thanks Sober, I went ahead and changed the TDW UI setting as you suggested as well as the main.cfg TC settings. I'll hold off on those mods until I see how it goes.
