Going to give U boats a try for a while.SH 3 with GWX or SH 4 with OP Monsun?
Going to give U Boats a try again.I checked out OM a while back and liked it but I'm a PTO fleetboat guy.However, played a bit lately and think will give the Pacific a rest for a few.Being home for holidays, lot of free time on hands so figured may try U Boats.
So as the title says, question is which would be the better sim? Thinking I could purchase SH 3 and give GWX Gold a try or should just load up OM again .Better Uboat sim? |

Both are about equal. GWX gives a broader experience overall, but SH4 has some built-in operations that put it ahead in the mechanics department. Due to OM being built by a team of 1, what's lacking is the extras that come from a larger group.
If you need visual goodies (and I do), you'll play SH3 with GWX (and I do). If you love the extra benefits that come with SH4 (and I do), you'll play OM (and I do). |

what goodies are we talking about? |
SHCOMMANDER is the deal maker. I don't leave port without it. :haha:

LSH3 and WAC both offer even more visual experiences, if not the same gameplay; like completely revamped harbors and the actual real bridges over the Kiel Canal, including the rotating railroad bridge. Those are all little things, but they make a big difference. And of course Commander. SH3 Commander changes the way you look at the game, adding reality to the career, not the game. Almost two billion crew names, real ship names and information, crew rotation, career information...you can read it all in Jaesen's manual. SH4, on the other hand, hasn't had anyone mod any of those cool things. This is too bad, because it has better management and graphics, better stability, better everything really. If it had a version of Commander we could not only have real ship names, but guarantee that the names were nation-specific, so if you sank a ship with a Brazilian flag it would get a Brazilian name. SH3 can't do that. |
Well...I tried and retried....but I couldn't run SH3 GWX or LSH3 or WAC on my Vista 32 system:cry::timeout:
geeezzzz.....made it work |
Well I decided to go with OM until I get SH 3 and set it up.
I have: OM V705 OM V705 to V 720 OM V720 patch OMEGU V300 OMEGUV300 patch Any other suggestions for mods? Tips? etc |

I had the same thoughts, I already owned SH4 Gold but thought I should buy SH3 and add GWX so that I had a dedicated U-Boat sim and a dedicated fleet boat sim. So Amazon was nice enough to sell me an unused copy. As it turns out I was so accustomed to SH4 that SH3 was quite alien to me so now it sits on my hard drive and I use OM with SH4. I just don't have the energy to learn another game when SH4+OM do what I want anyway :)

Since you already have SH4, you've made a wise choice to go with OM. That said, SH3 is very cheap these days. When you asked about the "goodies" I should have shown you this thread.
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=170090 What makes me sad is that any of the mods listed in that thread could be done for SH4, which is the better (more advanced) game. But no one seems interested. Quote:

I think SH4 is better adapted for PTO. For U-Boats, SH3 (GWX or NYGM or LSH3 or WAC) is the option. I tried and I have installed OM (with OMEGU), but - in my machine - is buggy. And lacks all that fun stuff of SH3, because it isnīt attractive to the modders...(I donīt know why). I think SH3 plus some supermod plus other goodies is very very immersive, plus SH3 Commander, is the the best U-Boot subsim.
SH4 - with better graphics and better crew management than SH3, is a cold game. I use TMO plus RSRDC, and FOTRS, both greats mods and the best for SH4, but SH3 is....better, friendly, and immersive. Or only is my sensation...? Of course, I bought SH5, and I uninstalled it...It is a comic game, with comic crew, I prefer Sierraīs Aces of the Deep: more comic, more immersive. Regards. Fitzcarraldo :salute: |
Sh4+OP Monsun = nice graphics
SH3+GWX+Cmdr = better immersion |
