SH3 Commander Not Doing What I Say?
So, I have a few questions. I have Silent Hunter 3 plus GWX 3.0 plus SH3 Commander, and when I start a new career...well here's an example...
I set my start date to be August 8th, 1940 I select the 7th/13th Flotilla and a VIIC as my U-boat type. I also choose a U-boat number (Let's say 77) Now I understand that I must go into the game and the changes will take effect after I start and save from my first patrol...however... When I exit SH3 Commander and come back, none of my settings have taken effect. The In game date will still be October 1st of 1940, and I'm given a VIIB, and not the VIIC like I chose. I also have to reassign my same U-boat number. To add to this, when I select "Use Real Ship Names" in Captain's log, and sink ships, I do get ship names, but never any crew information. I decided to post a screenie of my personnel file when I review it after updating it. You'll see the ship names and original type and tonnage, but no crew lost like other people's logs I have seen here... http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...NoCrewInfo.jpg Please ignore my meager 10k tons... Any ideas of what I am doing wrong? Thanks in advance Kaleuns! :salute::ping: |
Sign in and update your personnel file, and then back to look at your patrol log
|
I just updated it again after opening Commander and it still displays the same page with only the ship names and tonnage, no crew information.
Sorry, I find this confusing too... |
What mods if any do you have enabled?

Then I have the lifeboats mod v4 Enhanced damage effects Torpedo Damage Mod Final V2 No Medals on Crew Open Hatch Mod English Nav Map Integrated Orders Lite Harbor Traffic Das Boot Opening Movie That's all I have on and activated. |
Which version of Commander? Only 3.2 gives the full ship information.

In Commander you start a new career with these settings:
name of Kaleun August 1940 (8th is not possible) 7/13th flotilla VIIC - 77 (crew and grid) Now start the game and repeat the settings ingame as far as possible: confirm new career and name of Kaleun set year to 1940 select 7/13th flotilla Start the career and a 'calculation' starts to let you finally start at your office in Kiel in August 1940 in command of a VIIC with number 77. |

@ Sailor Steve I'm using the 3.2 Version @Mittelwaechter, Thank you, I'll try that. I think the start is my main problem because I am trying to start in August, 1940. I'll set it for a different month... I still don't understand the lack of crew information for sunk ships on the captain's log... The manual says "Use real ship names in patrol logs: Select this option to replace the generic Silent Hunter III and crew details."ship names (ie ‘C3 Cargo’) in the patrol logs with real ship names and (where known) cargo I wonder if by where known, it means crew information will only be displayed for the historical ships? Because, whenI play SH3 GWX launched through commander, I run a patrol and sink ships, exit SH3 GWX and the commander window re-opens. I update my personnel profile, and the only thing shown is the names of the ships I sunk, and their tonnages no crew lost or cargo information... |
It doesn't change the ingame logs but the SH3 Commander patrol logs. Cklick for available actions... Review patrol logs...

There's a .cfg file you need to run commander with GWX. Have you installed this? Regards, Sven.

Next question: When you say you "run a patrol and sink ships, exit SH3 GWX and the commander window re-opens", are you finishing the patrol or stopping in the middle? Commander only updates when the patrol is done.
Even as I ask I know that is probably not the case, because I don't think Commmander updates the names either, until the patrol is over. This is getting interesting. I'm curious to hear what Jaesen will say when he gets here. Edit: Quote:

@ Sailor Steve: Yes, I run a patrol and sink whatever I can, which is usually not alot  and then I return to base and exit SH3 which then kicks me back to my desktop and the career information window of SH3 Commander. Sorry I need to be more clear on what I type...4am after 3 beers usually leaves me very sleepy, and therefore unclear on my posts... :-?
@Mittelwaechter: Yeah, it won't display anything on the in-game captain's log until you save after patrol is finished, exit SH3 and update your career in commander, which is what I've been doing...and yet it displays everything yours shows except for the ships cargo and crew lost...very strange... @Svendog: Thanks for double checking on that, but I did find the GWX cfg file download that installs after you install the original. I read the posts over before I installed commander and it said install the original version, then install the CFG Files for GWX to add to commander. Is this my problem? Was I only supposed to install the CFG Files for GWX version, or did I do it right by installing Commander original then installing the GWX CFG files? I could've sworn that I read that that was the process... Thanks again to everyone who is continuing to try to help me. In the end, thankfully it's not a huge problem. I still get ship names added to my patrol logs when I update, just no crew info, which is mostly just eye candy. I still however, can't start in a VIIC Sub from the 7th/13th flotilla in 1940 no matter what month I tell commander to start, but again, these are just trivial problems, that don't really affect gameplay. I almost have enough renown to switch to a VIIC. :yeah: |
That sounds like you installed it correctly. Sorry I can't be more helpfull. I stopped using commander because I seemed to be plagued with CTD problems when I used it, both in GWX and in the stock game. Hope someone can help you shipmate. Sven.

The GWX CFG for SH3 Commander should be added AFTER SH3 Commander has been installed....it would appear you've followed the correct procedure.
