Would you climb K2 in the Winter by yourself for $10 billion?

If your trip and climb were all expense paid.

I wouldn't survive................

Ducimus 12-07-10 10:43 PM

What good is all the money in the world if your dead?

Krauter 12-07-10 10:51 PM

Why do you keep posting random polls?

Uhhhh I voted yes

What?!? That's awesome. I'm stealing that one.

Didnt say how or by what means.

Of course, no vehicles or such, but a properly geared and trained expedition could do it. Not one of these tourist expeditions (blech) that climb it nowadays. The only reason serious mountaineers climb it these days is just tick the bastard off their list and move onto more serious climbs.

Sledgehammer427 12-07-10 11:37 PM

by myself, in the middle of winter....all expenses paid (that means I won't be climbing buck nekkid)
Give me 2 years notice to train and get in shape and sure I'll give it a whack

Madox58 12-07-10 11:58 PM

I don't think anyone climbs it in Winter.
There's a well known window for going up.
And many have died being outside that window.
Even by a few days.
I can recall the cell phone event just a few years ago.
A billion dollars don't mean Jack if your odds are zero.
And if you need money that bad?
There are safer ways to make money.

Would I be going alone?

If I was I would just walk up the mountain out of site of the person offing me the $10 billion. Photoshop an image of me standing at the summit and come back a few weeks latter and claim my money.

CaptainHaplo 12-08-10 01:48 AM

I'd do it for 2 Billion. Survival in extreme cold is very possible, but only if you plan ahead. Given the conditions - its a doable climb. Treacherous but definitely possible. I'd want a year to prep though.

The key is I want the deal locked in stone, the funds in various trusts so that there is no possibility of a "fast one".

All I can say on this is:

Show me the money - I'll get it done.

kiwi_2005 12-08-10 01:57 AM

I would climb mount Everest for 1 million, 2 billion I would climb that mountain in my underwear if they asked me too. Seriously for 2 billion who wouldn't its a high risk but if training was involved and you got the very best equipment/clothing then why not take that risk. And if you died on the mountain well at least your be preserved for centuries or until they find a way to bring a frozen dead body back to life. :dead:
