Need Help with Fighting Steel
I'm starting to get back into the classic games (they really don't make them like they used to!) and I just reinstalled Fighting Steel. I have it set to "Run as Administrator," but I keep getting a message that a file called d3drm.dll is missing. My computer is brand new (I've had it a month or so), and runs Windows 7 (I have compatability set for W98).
Any help would be appreciated. |
FS uses an older version of DirectX that has that file. The newer versions don't. You can try installing the DirectX from the FS disc. Just tell it not to overwrite any files it may want to. Or, you can do what I did, which is do a Google search for just that file. There are websites that will let you download just it. Then you put it in your system or system32 folder (I forget which) in the Windows folder. If you're using a 64 bit Windows, it has to go in the SysWOW64 folder.

It worked! Thanks!

Trouble, Part Deux
Got Fighting Steel to run, but it crashes not long after starting the game. Installed the 1.1 patch, and it still happens. The readme files instructions seem a little outdated. Any suggestions?

Go here (you'll probably need to register for access):
http://forums.navalwarfare.net/forum...THUNDER-AT-SEA Download and install FSP. It'll fix the problems with the game crashing on later versions of Windows. There's also a ton of extra missions, including some by yours truly. :D |
Mine was booting up but crashing after a bit with 1.1 patch installed. Then I installed the Fighting Steel Project and it didn't crash but the graphics are all messed up for the ships. And cursor is leaving ghosts
https://nws-online.proboards.com/thr...-steel-project // Graphics Fix - install dgVoodoo2 : https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/DgVoodoo_2 copy the following files: dgVoodoo.conf, dgVoodooCpl.exe and all the files from the x86 folder inside the MS folder (don't leave them in the x64 and x86 folders)... move them into the main SFC3 folder. |
