Watch Officer & I

Who ever claimed truth is first victim in war lied,surely I outraced it to bottom of the ocean.

My first patrol in SH 5 went something like this;
Save for half a dozen CTDs when using UZO the trip from Kiel to eastern coast of England went well enough. I began patrolling the target sector. Increased time compression. Kept sailing about for some two days, no contacts. Starting to think traffic isn't quite as high as I would have imagined. Weather and fuel reports aside, first time I hear from my crew is when they deem it polite to tell me my sub is falling apart. I quickly set time compression to 1x and climb to tower.. just in time to see not one, but TWO warships more or less ramming me. Why didn't my watch officer report of these less welcoming hosts?! Is this a bug, feature or am I doing something wrong? I wasn't in travel mode. Seriously, WTF!

Hey there, I really enjoy your New UIs!

First post on this page has my mods/loadorder listed:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...173193&page=14

While trying to figure out what causes the occasional Uzo crash, I removed everything below the NewUIs core. Other than that, list is current.

if you're using my UIs mod then try setting the following options like below:

# do we go to TCx (where x is defined by TCxOnMessageBoxTextDesiredTCLevel) when one of the following messages is posted in the messagebox?
# change below to either True or False
TCxOnMessageBoxText = True
# if TCxOnMessageBoxText is enabled then it will trigger on the following numbers from menu.txt:
# NOTE: all must be placed on single line with no breaks for options exporter to work correctly!
TCxOnMessageBoxTextNumbers = [ 9200,9201,9202,9203,9204,9205,817,4800,4801,9206,9 207,9208,9209,9210,9211,9212,7666,7667 ]
# if TCxOnMessageBoxText is enabled and one of the texts from TCxOnMessageBoxTextNumbers is found, what TC level do we go to?
TCxOnMessageBoxTextDesiredTCLevel = 1
# do we go to TC1 on any messagebox text?
# change below to either True or False
TC1OnAnyMessageBoxText = False

I'm going to add a new user option that will allow you to set the range a contact is from you sub before a TCx command is issued. This will allow you to define a radius around your sub, x, that if a contact gets inside of and you are greater than TC1 you will go to TCy where x being the radius around your sub and y being the TC level to drop to. x and y will be defined in options file.

Could it also be that the watch crew lost their binoculars? Mine have. :damn:

Tweaking the options you mentioned did have an effect; compression slows down when near an enemy as it should! Something is still very off though.
For one thing, my watch officer isn't reporting anything correctly. I never get "Contact, freighter, bearing XXX" ....Except when leaving Kiel. Only reason for me to suspect there might be an enemy near is the compression going back to 1 x. I rush to deck, ask WO to report nearest contact and..what do ya know, he DOES see something. Strangely, I never do. Regardless of wether I use bonoculars, periscope(s) or Uzo I don't see a thing in Bearing WO is reporting. Regardless wether the ghost ship is in 2km, 4 km or 6km, I see nothing. This has happened numerous times (10+) on my current patrol.
