Changing to 100% duds torpedoes

hello,

I'd like to design a single training mission for torpedo with manual TDC.

So instead of reloading the mission all the time I'd like to make it realistic by not quitting it all the time i.e. keep the boat running.

So I'm thinking about having to navigate to a certain spot and start to track for targets but these targets are american ships (again, training only) and be able to fire torpedoes but all of them would be duds. So which file do I change to get 100% duds?

tks

IMO i would suggest you DONT use duds so you can better visually "see" your results to measure accuracy and successful solutions

instead i would suggest you use a hard to sink merchant and set the torps to very low hit points so they do minimal damage.

cutting the hit power say by 3/4 should insure you run out of torps before it can take serious damage

Ok thanks!!:up::up:

I did download the program and it gives me a value of 0x3b40ac80d1e69cba for the dud factor, which value would it be 100%? Sorry I'm not that tech enough...:ping:

which mod was that? or are you talking about S3D?

if you are still talking about changing the dud factor and that is the Sim file you are looking at then you were right there but you needed to click on the second "amun_Torpedo" that opens up after clicking on the first one. after doing so you will see the box to the right (the property tree) show the list of files contained in it.

on this list it shows the torpedo type and underneath there will be arrows you click to open subsections of certain catagories. in your case "pistols" is what you want because thats the firing pin for torps.

after clicking pistols you see another big list of stuff (thats how the game files work, they are a maze of stuff you have to dig throu sometimes) and i think its obvious you open "DudChances" next (but its not always that obvious) now set the "dud_reduction_rate".

since it says "reduction rate" my guess would be change it from 50 to 0 but if thats wrong then use 100 (sometimes things are labeled backwards in the game files)

----------------------------------------

if you are interested in reducing the torpedo damage effect as i suggested then in the "data/library" folder open Torpedoes_US.zon for US torpedos and Torpedo.zon for german torpedos under the node listing of "AmmoDamageInfo" then click on the second "AmmoDamageInfo" node that shows up. do this for each one as they have a seperate one for each torpedo type. then you make the changes over on the list from the box to the right (the property tree)

the MinEF and MaxEF are minimum effect and maximum effect the torpedos will have. for my mod i increased them but since you want to not sink the ships then in your case make the numbers smaller. think of the effect as the size of the bubble of damage that is caused.

the min and max radius are the size hole that the torpedo makes which has the largest effect on visual damage sizes but i never got any satisfying changes from altering them as far as real damage goes and it just made thevisual effects look stupidly overdone or not show much at all so i saw no benefit in changing those.

one thing to remember with this game is sometimes not all the settings will work right or even effect anything and sometimes some things in the game just wont change no matter what settings you use so as you start modding you will find some things that seam so easy are the most diffacult or just not possible to do.
