Both are award winning war game btw.
I don't feel that excited anymore at playing PC games much less console.
I was looking for relatively easy to teach and quality tactical war game when somebody mentioned these.


Anyone play these?

I don't. but I'm certainly looking to get involved in tabletop wargaming. You must tell us how this game is, I'm definitely interested.

Well for a start unlike most war game this comes with mounted board. Furthermore I've been told the rules are relatively easy to teach.
There's almost no downtime in the game either and this is playable solo as well.

The series have claimed board gaming awards. I've heard nothing but praises for this one. I'll inform you when I got the game and tried it personally. Meanwhile I've convinced myself they are what I'm looking for in tactical war games.

I still wargame with good old fashioned cardboard pieces and mounted boards.
My all time favorite is Advanced Squad Leader.

Excellent game but the rule book can be daunting at times. The basic rules can be picked up pretty easily though and you can be playing some of the basic scenarios quickly.

But we shot the loser by the end of the game if he was playing Soviet. Stalin did say not a step backward :O:

Umm what do you exactly mean . . . . I can assure you whatever shame people think of me the shame is not mine. I could even help a certain nation in times of its crisis. Stupid people get listened to because they have money and power but nobody's going to steal my dream because my dream doesn't depend on stupid people or even any people whatsoever.:nope:. :O:

The only board game I have that made me to contemplate dressing up for the game is Arkham Horror but the base game is just too easy for my gaming group thus wouldn't be so much fun dressing up to add the already almost nonexistent suspense. Planning to get an expansion to add the game difficulty a bit but always ended up buying a different new game altogether.

I have plenty of good memories playing board games like that. With the right group, it was very fun.

You see kids, this is what we did before there were any personal computers. We actually got together with our friends and talked to their face.... using spoken words. And they talked back! It really happened.

And we were thankful.

I still have boxes of games like that. Waiting for the kids to get a little older.

I could never find any face-to-face gamers that enjoyed the games I wanted to play. I was forced to begin play by mail, finding opponents in such magazines as put out by Avalon Hill and GDW game companies.

I still find pbem as addictive as video games were. Today, few video games are worth a look.

A lot of people would play table-top if there were opponents, oh, and time.

Running such cosims as tabletops over long time (no matter whether PBM, AI or solo play) is fascinating, but is severly hampered by the immense space that is needed and gets blocked for the wholoe duration. This is where PCs are extremely helpful, this, and the sometimes epic background calculations needed. Nevertheless it feels good to use those pincers on those material counters scattered around on that solid printed map. :salute:
