Strange spire NNE of Truk

Playing TMO/RSRD and passed near Truk and see this tall spire sticking out the water at 152 deg 0E, 8 deg,0N. What is it? I don't know how to upload pics so I can only say where it is.

Lot's mistress?

tater 11-12-10 01:28 PM

Lot's Wife, aka Sofu Gan (jap name, USN guys called it Lot's Wife).

Fincuan 11-12-10 01:54 PM

There's plenty of underwater mountains and smaller islands in that area, so it's probably related to those.

Lot's Wife is situated a few thousand kilometers north.

I think he might be referring to a terrain bug. There's this spike that comes out of the seafloor, to whatever altitude i don't know, i just know it reachs as high as you can see. It's REALLY weird looking.

True, and Lot's Wife is NNW, anyway I guess.

I call it Jack's beanstalk, funny, it extends as far as you can go up. Got some old SS's of it somewhere in the daytime, but found this night shot of it.

Ah yes, Ubisoft's monument to itself.:stare: Kind of reminds me of the Washington monument, on lots of steroids.:woot:

I'm glad computer programmers didn't make the real world.

Sledgehammer427 11-12-10 11:56 PM

I can see how this thing was created...
....late at night in Ubisoft Romania's Headquarters, the terrain designer is hard at work shaping the seabed floor with some oceanographic readouts. he's just finished with Truk and he accidentally dozes off on the mouse. What happened was he clicked on one pixel and never let go, creating an undetectable monolith rising from the sea floor.

tater 11-13-10 01:15 AM

Might be an artifact from the improved Truk reefs... All it would take is one bad pixel on the elevation map.
