i44 currently the best mp ww2 tanksim?
Just a heads up for all you tankers the i44 mod has been released for ArmA 2 and in our opinion is currently the best multiplayer world war 2 tank sim available, for several reasons.
ArmA2 has outstanding multiplayer code, we have hosted 8 people on a a non dedicated 8mbit home broadband connection. i44 tanks are now slow, heavy beasts with some really great models. i44 tanks have working optics, so you gun like they did in the day. i44 has the best Panther sound ever heard in a sim! i44 has models for the panzer 2,4 (d,g,g skirted) Tiger, King Tiger and 4 version's of stug. i44 Allied units have the Shermans (various models) and Firefly i44 has all the support vehicles that need to be used to keep you're panzer in working order. Arma2 has massive 225 sqkm maps, with many environments. i44 comes with a D-Day landing map, with correct period setting. Arma2 supports 60 man MP missions on a dedicated server. ArmA2 has built in voice chat at many levels, so the correct comms can be used. Give it a try, we all love it, we hope you guys do. looks awesome i think i must give it a go... gotta buy arma2 first tho
I havent played shooters in a long long time, how does the aiming system work? crosshair in mid screen or the weapon sights like in real life |
Given tanks have always been the weakest link of OFP/Arma, I can with quite a great confident say 'no' to the question without even trying it. :hmmm:

The first mod team to achieve this and please give us more credit than trying to pass off the cardboard tanks of ofp/arma as anywhere near good enough. These tanks are very good indeed, if you have Arma2 what have you got to loose :) |

A real aiming reticle for all panzers and tanks. Here I have it set to 800 meters. http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/x...kz/optic-1.png |

Tho, the tanks do look very nice. :yeah: |
I do not have ArmA2, I only know the tanks in Flashpoint and ArmA(1), but back then there was no functional realism in any of them. So I wonder whether this WWII mod is only cosmetic, or also functional:
- how are weapon physics, and ballistic behaviour of projectiles? - how is interaction between kinetic energy, armour type, and impact angle? - how is vehicle movement behaviour? I would say these are three of the most important factors that decide tank simulations. I personally would also add formation AI and tactical formation interaction - tanks are team players. Don't want to piss anyone, and certainly not the modders. It's always nice to see fans investing voluntary work into their hobby. I just think these questions belong to a complete description of such a mod. The beige-olive-redbrown skin reminds me of the "Assault"-skins for SBP. Same authors, by chance? |
Murkz,
Thanks for the heads up! |

Second, no clue, do you know how this works in Steel Beasts? Third, vehicle movement is very good, tanks are slow to turn and very near if not the same as their re-life counterpart. Don't shoot the messenger, if you guys have questions try it out, then you will know for yourself :) As for mp ww2 tanking you have one other choice which is ww2online, that is pay to play, TvT is unusable in mp. |
Looks good murkz, I,ll make this thread a sticky for you MP guys
