Not So Fast: Pelosi Considers Staying as Democratic Leader

The outgoing House speaker is talking to fellow Democrats as she weighs whether to stick around in Congress and run for minority leader following her party's 'shellacking' in the elections.

Did you know that Representative Pelosi can run for Speaker of the House?

There is nothing in the Rules Governing the House of Representatives that mandates that the Speaker of the House must be from the Majority Party. Of course, the chances of a minority party member being elected to Speaker are nil, but it would be legal.

She can certainly run as a candidate for election to the position of Minority Leader in the House. But that will be determined by a vote by the Democrats.

My advice to the House would be not to elect her as Minority Leader. She carries too much emotional baggage with the voters (both Democratic and Republican). Looking strategically, one has to consider whether her puyblic personality (which ain't all that great) and her history may out weigh any benefit she can bring to the Democratic party.

I think there are other deserving Democrats in the House that could perform equally well, or perhaps better, without the emotional baggage.

No, I did not know but how much chance there could be, :hmm2:

Chance for her being elected to Minority Lead? Unfortunately, pretty good. :nope:

But that is up to the Democrats. They elect who THEY want and have to accept the consequences. It is totally their decision. :yep:

OK! I understand the situation, a little complex.....
