Trouble with xp pro install.
 

My PC crashed so i had to reformat the hard drive, to do this i spent £30 on a new windows xp pro disk (i hate windows 7 and vista). Today my disk arrived brand new all genuine and official. I go to isntall the disc hdd re-formated and installing everything is al ok until i get to 51% and then file cannot be copied errors come up, after re-trying i decided to take the risk and skip the file, but then then next file and 10 after that (i didnt go any further) all have the samee problem and i dont want to skip my way through the install.
Ive re tried the whole process and same problem. Can anybody help me i need my pc back before i go insane reading the manual and back cover of my un-played fallout:new vegas.

You had a PC crash, could you give us a bit more info on that? it might relate to the problem you have now.

Right off the bat I would wager that your hard drive has failed, but since a friend of mine had similar trouble recently this is what you could try.

Remove all sticks of ram but one and try to do the install, if it fails try it with the other stick. That should eliminate ram feilure as a cause.
Then you can try to partition the drive into segments and then try to install windows on different partitions, that might help you miss the bad sectors if the drive indeed has failed like that and you may get some temporary use out of your puter till you get another hdd.

Yes, it sounds like a plausible explanation for the problem, the hard drive has been something wrong, like this "sucks" really

No idea what happened all of a sudden none of my games worked and nor would system restore, but i thought after re-formatting it would be irrelevent so never explained it.

Any idea how to get round that or do i just send it back?

Can you try formatting again and then try to add XP,send it back is probably the last way to go,what condition is your HDD before this happened?

Like Antikristuseke mentions, sounds like a HDD going bad.

Unless you have a spare HDD lying around to confirm the problem I would say to be safe bring it to the store and have it checked & fixed for you.
