Unable to continue diving

I´m been in a few situations where I have been spotted and I have needed to dive to 80 or so metres. However, if I take a little bit of damage I am unable to continue diving, even once I complete the repairs. Am I doing something wrong? Does the Hull integrity need to be 100% in order to continue diving? I´ve even tried the emergency crash dive while at 60m and after a lot of noise the sub doesn´t move at all!

Sound like you hit a sea bottom.

serious?? but its happened on a few occasions now in different areas. is this the only possible explanation?

Take regular depth soundings from your sonar man. A lot of relatively shallow waters, especially in the North Sea! The enemy cannot hear your ping so there's no excuse.

Depending on how damaged your hull is can change how deep you can successfully dive, however, even if your hull integrity is in question it won't stop you diving - you'll just increase damage/flooding and eventually there will be no way back to the surface, you'll just die a horrible death. But it's only a game :D

Ok thanks! It must be that then. Just when I thought the game couldn´t get any more complex...

You can ask your Navigator to make a ping and tell you how much water you have under a keel.

The nav map colour has a shaded scale showing depth too, but this shouldn't be taken too seriously. Depth should be ascertained through soundings only.

Oh, and I got it wrong - it's the Nav who reports the depth, not the sonar guy! Oops

I've found the shading to be fine for getting a general idea, granted I'm using a modded version where the depth ranges used are 0-50m, 50-100m, 100-150m, and >150m so that much I can be pretty sure of without constantly pinging the bottom. In the latter two I know I'm always safe to crash dive at the very least, in the first two I check depth under keel as needed depending on the situation. So far no problems.

But I tend not to hang around shallow water unless I get assigned there or am just passing through on my way somewhere else. My preference is to ask for depth under keel and be told that IT'S OVER 1000!!!! :D

Do they really can't hear you? I always was affraid to ping a sea bottom, because of enemy.

I've asked this question myself on this forum. No, was the resounding answer, they can't hear you! :D

Only sometimes :03: Do you have any mods?

Yoriyn 11-02-10 12:17 PM

GWX 3.0, TNT v2, whisper ring ring, waterstream + exhaust smoke, life boats and debris, magui 3.4 and realnavmod. Thats all what I use in this moment.
