Cameron and Sarkozy hail UK-France defence treaties

David Cameron has said new treaties on defence and nuclear co-operation with France marked a "new chapter" in a long history of defence cooperation.Speaking alongside French President Nicolas Sarkozy, the UK PM said it would make both countries' citizens safer and would save money.

A centre will be set up in the UK to develop nuclear testing technology and another in France to carry it out.

The leaders also confirmed plans for a joint army expeditionary force.

After both leaders signed the two treaties, Mr Cameron said: "Today we open a new chapter in a long history of co-operation on defence and security between Britain and France."

The French are one of the few nations in Europe that I've not served alongside, however, if their low-flying footage on youtube is anything to go by then the pilots, if no-one else, have balls... :yep:

Maybe it'll work fine :hmmm: Maybe we needed this years ago so Bliar wouldn't have been herded into Iraq.

Or maybe it'll all go to the chiens :nope:

My money is on the chiens.

Still, since we don't really have much of a military any more it's either this or wait for the Americans to bail us out, which they won't until at least after 2012. :hmmm:

Yeah, they're good.

I've seen a 'private' video compiled by Herc crews and it features some footage from a Red Flag exercise from an American AA crew and it's so low they're really struggling to get a lock on it - they don't!

I'll see my friend and see if I can get a copy! (he was extremely reluctant a few years ago)

I don't see such a big deal.

Makes sense given the economic climate.

Certainly, one deals like this is both good and bad...

I do have one question though. If Argentina were to make another grab for the Falklands would the UK have to ask France's permission to defend them???

bookworm_020 11-03-10 03:03 AM

With the french defending the UK your bound to loose now!:damn:

The new British defense weapon!

No, because we still have Soveriegn rights, just. But the French would still try and sell weaponry to the Argies, just like last time! :nope:
