NOW Defends O'Donnell After One Night Stand Story

After Republican women faced name-calling for allegedly being a "whore," a "b----" and now something akin to a prudish slut, the National Organization of Women has said it's had enough, and five days before the midterm election has called for a stop of the "sexist, misogynist attacks."

I agree. There is so much that is more important to criticize ODonnell about then her sexuality or gender.

Unfortunately both sides have been focusing on ad hominem attacks instead of a logical critique of a candidate's position on the issues and their actual qualifications for the office they are seeking.

Why?

1. Ad hominem attacks are easier than attacking a position
2. Ad hominem attacks appeal to the base emotional level instead of the intellectual level
3. Ad hominem attacks work!

People are lazy and want to be told what to think (Oberman/Beck/Limbaugh/Madow). People want soundbyte evaluations and love labels.

How many people here, when reading about some political scandal, want to know immediately the political party of the person involved?

So yeah, good on the NOW. It is time to attack politicians on what they do/say and not the type of underwear they wear.

That is a pretty slimy approach. Not new to politics, but shameful none-the-less. What really jumped out at me from the article was this:

Quote:

In South Carolina, two Republican operatives have also claimed to have affairs with Republican gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley. Neither has produced evidence of any trysts and Haley has denied both charges, saying she has been faithful throughout her 13-year marriage.
The establishment cannibalizing it's own. Is this a glimpse of what the Republicans have in store for the Tea Party? Use, then crush?

The main reason I hate campaign ads in the first place; eventually they get nasty.

Oh, figured I might as well say this: I'm more inclined toward O'Donnell now. How's that for the effectiveness of mud flinging? :har:

This girl has taken a lot of BS, and this would well be, an explicit "we've had enough"

When I first saw teh thread title I thought it was NOW magazine lol:D

Seriously though, she had a one night stand so what, apparently they didn't even do it in the end.

I think sticking a cigar somewhere other than a mouth is a lot more dodgy, oh and then lying about it.

No, a one night stand is not uncommon,

but if the use of "sticking a cigar somewhere" there is perhaps a bit more "hot" which apparently was not so ..... :D

Wonder if they'd have made the (laudable) statement if she wasn't getting her ass kicked in the race.

Gerald 10-31-10 11:43 AM

Not impossible at all, as she is prone to enjoy :D

Agreed. It is very sleazy what they tried to to with Nikki Haley.

I don't see the O'Donnell story in the same light. It looks more like someone trying to make some quick cash. O'Donnell would have been smarter to ignore the story rather than trying to accuse her opponent and give the story even more publicity.
