Spy!!

I believe I have a spy on-board. He is giving away location, destination and other information to the enemy. How do I know? The last 3 patrols have been plagued with destroyers equipped with psychics. The moment I detect a destroyer on the hydrophones, I will ask for silent running, dive deeper at a slow speed, while facing their direction, and then call for a complete stop at a great depth. Every time I do this, they come from 15+ km away, stop within 100-200 meters above, start pinging, and begin dropping depth charges. I must have a suicidal spy on board. I had the radioman shot, but the destroyers keep coming. Who could it be?? Is it the watch officer, in the tower, with the homing device?

It's incredibly ridiculous, and I'm tired of putting up with a cpu that resorts to obvious cheating to up the difficulty. I'm not so much angry, as disgusted with it all, but I will be taking a few weeks off to play other games. Have a happy halloween all!

I don't recall ever having that happen. Are you using any mods at all?

Hans Uberman 10-29-10 11:56 PM

Nothing that I haven't been running for ages before the last few patrols. GWX3, TMT v2, MaGui 3.4, M.E.P. v3 are the main ones. The others don't change anything but graphics and sound. Same SH3 Commander 3.2 settings as always too.

I blame Colonel Mustard.

Full list:

GWX3
TMT 2
MaGui 3.4
M.E.P. v3 /w optional no stealth meter
GWX3 - Enhanced damage effects
M.E.P. v3
M.E.P. v3 Patch
M.E.P. Visual Sensors-GWX
Lifeboats & Debris
Pascal's Port People
Pascal's Binocular's Black
Real Depth Charge
Seafloor SF V3 Final
Torpedo Damage Final v2
Darker Water for M.E.P.
Bristish Asdic MkI Final
No continuous ship spotted v1.2
Ice Age
Sobers 3D Waves
WB Renown Replacement
GWX - Late war sensors/snorkel antennas
GWX - No ringing bell mod
Skin mod, etc...

Check your crew list for anybody named dinsdale.......

VONHARRIS 10-30-10 12:33 AM

Is there any relative of Bernard on your crew? Was the radioman shot on sight or after a trial? Did you have any evidence?

Seriously speaking this is very odd. I aiso use GWX 3.0 and this has never ever happened. Could it be a glitch on your system or a new bug?

1944 isn't a good year for U-Boats :nope:

Sailor Steve 10-30-10 10:52 AM

They have radar, which by that time makes it possible to triangulate your exact position.

And speaking of realism, real u-boats couldn't stop at "a great depth" without sinking.

As I stated, I picked them up on hydrophones, which means that I was already underwater. I'm guessing that radar had nothing to do with it.

Unless you're manually adjusting your speed to 1 kts you aren't really on "silent speed", escorts can still pick you up on hydrophones. Even though the game puts it at 2 kts, it makes a big difference. Have had trawlers or escorts pummel me until I notice I'm running at 2 knots, then switch to one and have seen them instantly loose track of me (even to the point of passing directly over me and doing nothing - early in the war). Later in the time your in it'll take some underwater manuevering and knuckle turns at flank while charges are exploding to get away but won't be impossible if you go back to moving at 1 knot for silent.

Hans Uberman 10-30-10 01:42 PM

Yes, I use less than 50 rpm speed quite a bit, and check it with the dials. I doubt they could detect me diving at less than 50 rpm from 15-20 km out, while in a storm, and the engines being pointed away. I also killed the engines entirely before they reached 10km if I'm not mistaken.

Blame the cook

The cook is likely using the decoy ejector to dump waste again.

I'd say it's likely a mod combined with the year. There are guys on the forum who want to create mods with super torpedoes, hi-speed subs, and so on. Perhaps this is an intentional 'joke' put in an otherwise normal mod?

I'd be tempted to examine the files that deal with the sonar detection. Sorry I can't know enough about which files, but someone else here might suggest. You'd be looking for value cranked way out of line.

Perhaps Colonel Mustard with the lead pipe in the dining room?

Old and blind I am. My bad.

Jimbuna 10-30-10 03:38 PM

Have you checked your boat isn't damaged and your not trailing oil?

This is a good idea. I was decently damaged during one of my previous patrols, but it was just before expending my last torpedo, and going home. Other than this, I don't recall sustaining any damage, and checking SH3 Commander records, it seems that I did not. The most recent example was at the beginning of a new patrol, and I had not seen combat.
