Your best kill/shot
Tell the story or post the SS's
Hit two carriers at the same time, one bow torps, one aft torps. http://i651.photobucket.com/albums/u...011353_410.jpg Shooting at a BB's searchlight, got a decent setup, got the shots off and barely dived before the escort came up my tailpipe. http://i651.photobucket.com/albums/u...010925_238.jpg That's some Gyro, to be in front of the carrier when the torp hits. http://i651.photobucket.com/albums/u...220420_656.jpg My favorite. This escort really worked me over in Formosa. I've sunk many ships exploding nearby ones, no way to hit the escort so I timed it's pass near this large modern. The modern was loaded, when the torp hit, BOOM and the explosion took out the escort that second. The torp hits and the escort buckled that second. http://i651.photobucket.com/albums/u...193202_406.jpg http://i651.photobucket.com/albums/u...193413_937.jpg Seldom see them jump out of the ocean split. http://i651.photobucket.com/albums/u...193224_234.jpg |
Quite a story
Go out and buy a lottery ticket immediately. You lucky dog!
Most sub jocks never get to hit a carrier much less two. I've never seen a ship destroyed by an explosion nearby. I often wondered if it would have any effect. |
I've sunk up to five ships just sinking one and the explsions domino, but you only get credit for the ship you hit, sucks.

Nice shots.
My favorite was a Kongo that I caught in the middle of a task force. I was in an S-boat, very early war. Ran into a TF, and put at least one shot into the Kongo. She slowed down, and started falling behind, but she was still just behind the TF. I moved out to the limit of visual range, and tailed her for over 100 miles, until she fell far enough behind that I could close in without the trailing escort from the TF detecting me. I managed to get close enough to fire some Mk 10s into her. http://img825.imageshack.us/img825/170/62347498.jpg The only thing I've managed to sink with exploding ships was myself, though. |
Nothing like reaching out and touching someone! :D
It's always nice when you can cull the weak ones from the herd!! |
I've sunk a number of those Large Modern Passenger Freighters. They always seem to explode violently. Not sure what they're loaded with (probably ammo) but it's usually pretty volatile. Nice tactic.

Bubblehead and I recently discussed some of the strong loadouts in RSRD, some make sense, some don't, many tankers carry freight instead of fuel or oil. I think Duc nerfed most of his traffic so these explosions don't happen.
I rather like them, but rather see them more realistic. Still, you load the internal and externals with ammo, oil or fuel both, you're gonna get one big blast radius. |

Well I think majority of tankers should have fuel loadouts, esp if heading TO Japan from the South West Pacific area. Tankers usually blew up nice, the book by Admiral Calvert about the USS Jack's "Tanker Sweep" where they sent an entire convoy of tankers to the bottom come to mind....each tanker blew up in wild fashion. I think majority of ships should have freighter, with some carrying ammo crates and some carrying internal and external loads of ammo. Every ship in RSRD seems to have ammo crates or both.I think Lurker may have did this to make them easier to sink bc in the game if not loaded with right ammo it can take too much to sink some ships.Problem is almost every merchant in RSRD blows into two pieces, esp lone merchants, it nerfs realism a bit.I'd love to change this but cant do it without fouling up RSRD. |
Honestly I don't know if just changing the loadout would matter, but you can't change any group settings. I'll give it a try and see.

yea thats why want to change it, getting too many big booms in RSRDC, gamey and im used to firing 3 torpedos for mid sized freighters as they did in RL and wasting one or even two at times because one fish does the job. I agree on the tankers and thats how I want them in RSRDC.Heading to Japan or from places like Borneo to Manilla, loaded with fuel, heading from manila to borneo or from japan or in convoy from japan, usually empty, some may have loads with fuel but most will be empty when heading south. Now if its local tanker traffic, give some fuel, some not. |
