Mexico is now building their own wall on border with Guatemala

The hight of irony!?!

The official reason is to stop contraband from coming into Mexico, but as Diaz admitted: “It could also prevent the free passage of illegal immigrants.”

According to Mexico's National Commission on Human Rights, 500,000 people from Central America cross into Mexico illegally every year.

Y'know, if we'd just annexed all of Mexico after the 1846-48 war, instead of just the northern part, we'd have a much smaller border to guard now. :D

But then the trips to Tijuana wouldn't seems so exciting.

I'm not sure where the irony comes in. Mexico never told us we could not build a fence or wall.

Its the goverment that is hesitant to do so.

Thats' a pretty good point. I hadn't considered that.

The irony (or hypocrisy if you wish) is that Mexico's presidents have spent the last several years criticizing our immigration policy, and telling us we should be more open.

Not so.......unless you take the world 'told' litterally of course. it is still ironic.

The Mexican policy is most definitely against the US-Mexican border fence.

I'm starting to feel like Tevye in this thread.

He's right.

He's right.

They can't both be right.

You know, you're right.

Mexico said they were against it. I do not recall were Mexico said not to build the fence. :hmmm:

This. Maybe Mexico hasn't stated we can't build a fence, but they've criticised our immigration and border policies, and now they're building a fence to:

Mexico absolutely stated that they were against building the fence on numerous occasions. They could not tell use we couldn't, that would require the ability to actually prevent it.

The official US policy towards any Mexican diplomatic language regarding the fence should now be "STFU."
