I believe your GPU may have failed, Hunter had the same problem awhile back I believe.

As TF said, most likely the GPU is biting the dust

this is what I had when my 2 1/2 year old 8800GT bit it

+1 to the GPU.

I had a problem a while back similar to that. Google search said the same. Replaced the card, no problems since.

Looks like a dead/dying graphics card to me.

thanks every one for your prompt reply :salute::yep:

...so a GPU is a graphics card ?

GPU = Graphics processing unit, its the chip on your grpahics card that does the computations on **** displayed on your screen, though those artefacts may be caused by failing graphics memory aswell, or some other mischelaneous failed component.
But in short, it looks like you need a new graphics card.

looks exactly like what i saw about a week ago.

Video card crapped the bed

went to best buy and got a new card for about $190, problem solved

Yeah, fortunately this is one of those failures that is really easy to diagnose.

Good luck getting the new card then!

I'd have suggested you purchase from BFG for their lifetime warranty....until I saw this article:

Thx Jim for the heads up.

@ Moderator... Could you please move this thread to Hardware\Software forum as this is a good info fix and would hate to see it lost.

XFX still offers double lifetime warranty if oyu are in the states or canada IIRC. Double meaning that if you sell it on the second owner can allso register it and will have a lifetime warranty.
