No credit for four sinkings on last patrol

This is a weird one. I used torpedoes and gunnery to sink four vessels of various sizes and did not receive credit for them, even though I witnessed them slip beneath the waves. Can this happen if you are viewing them externally and/or under time compression? It really ticks me off that I put all that effort into sinking a Granville, a small freighter and two trawlers only not to receive credit. This was on the third patrol of my current career, so it is not the first patrol bug.

Sounds fishy.

I've not been credited a few times, and older salts told me it could be because the weather got the credit -- apparently this can happen in rough seas.

And I dimly remember reading that saving in the presence of a wounded ship can cause credit problems -- of course, saving in the presence of any ship can cause problems.

But four in one patrol sounds like something systemic.

EDIT: Did you get the "She's going down" message & the red icon? Because if you got those and didn't get credit, something is certainly hinky.

...neutrals?
...leaving scene too early?
...think you have to get the RED sunk ship icon to collect credits

...others will explain better:03:

The weather was not too rough. On some I used the deck gun only, on others both torpedoes and guns. On all four occasions I did not get the sinking message and no red X appeared on the map, yet I saw each ship sink beneath the sea and leave rafts and debris. It's very weird as I have never seen anything quite like this. I was close enough to visually observe all four sink, so I definitely did not leave the area and travel outside of the SH3 world. The only possible villain I can think of is time compression, but I have received the sinking message before and after that while under time compression. They were also definite hostiles as all four were British.

Credit is overrated, me thinks: zee Blue Max eez just a badge.

Install any mods lately?

Hans Uberman 10-14-10 09:57 PM

I've had this happen during my current campaign, involving a Large Merchant. In disgust I loaded my previous save and the ship did not appear again. Sinkings have been fine since then. The weather could not have been calmer, and I haven't changed any mods recently.

I sometimes get the grey icon or no icon at all but still get the message "she's going down" and they appear in my log. I think rough sea has something to do with it and I often wonder at the end of the patrol if I actually got renown for these sinkings. It doesn't bother me too much as I still get the tonnage:yeah:.

If you don't get the "She's going down" message you won't get the credit.

This wasn't your first patrol by any chance?

K-61 10-15-10 02:43 PM

Nope. All the relevant info has been included above. This was the third patrol in my career, with the original mod set with which the war commenced. I also had a few sinkings for which I received credit but no red X appeared on the map. So far, in patrol 4 all sinkings have been credited. I shall be monitoring this on an ongoing basis.

Yes...ongoing monitoring of the situation is a good idea, it sounds like the stoooooopid SH3 game engine gremlins didn't like something you've got installed for a short while.

K-61 10-15-10 03:07 PM

I really can't think what it could have been, other than some screwup from time compression. I am using the same assortment of mods I have used for many patrols, so if that was where the problem lays it should have manifested before now. In any event, ongoing monitoring from now forward.

Do you have a newer version of SH3 without StarForce?
Or are you running the ReLoaded hack?
I ask because I am still looking at issues with saved games being whacked.
Side issues such as this may also be relevent to what I'm working on.

K-61 10-15-10 07:04 PM

I'm running the hacked version as I do not own a SF-free disc.

Madox58 10-15-10 08:17 PM

That is what I thought.
:yep:
Sh3, as released with StarForce, was broken.
The Reloaded Hack makes issues even worse!

I,
and others,
can say without any doubt,
the StarForce free files show much less problems in many areas.
Why Ubi has not released the StarForce free files as a download?
Well,
They gave us SH5.
Right?
:har:
