What will this accomplish?

I heard this story the other day. Poor woman british aid worker was killed in an incident. It later came out that it was most likely 'friendly fire' by a gernade. A very sad and tragic event.

Today I read this...

Quote:

KABUL, Afghanistan -- President Barack Obama promised "to get to the bottom" of a failed rescue attempt by U.S. special forces that ended in the death a captive British aid worker in Afghanistan, after NATO said an American grenade may have killed her.

Well.... considering the jackass has played more golf in his first 18 months in office than the previous president played in 8 years...

this boils down to busy work to make it look like he is actually doing something.

i like how obama likes to "get to the bottom of" things and "figure out who's ass he has to kick" etc

he loves to seem like he is on your side

Initially it was reported she was fitted with a suicide vest but whatever the method of her death I don't think the British and US governments had any choice but to act in the way they did because it was believed she was about to be taken to Pakistan.

Its to placate your allies as both the prime minister and the foriegn secretary had to issue statements about the earlier statements which were not true.
So its a typical case of an attempt at initial damage limitation causing more damage.

I can't disagree with you but it is pretty hard for some who are so committed to the cause of helping those less fortunate than themselves.

There is more to it than that, remove all the aid agencies and all their workers and the military has to step in with its own personel to do the job and then add more troops to guard the new troops.
So aid workers stay fark out of afgnanistan and let the tax payers pick up a much bigger bill.

There you are then, congratulations, you've singlehandedly sorted the whole mess out.

Look forward to seeing you in the next honours list.

Now I know where I've been going wrong for the past twenty years in the service of my country/communities.

No not at all, just a sense of 'here we go again'

There must have been a lack since you took what would be a bigger problem and thought it was presented as a solution.

Obama picks odd battles to fight. When he could support our allies in the UK, he flips them the bird, so I guess he's trying to make nice. In this case it fits with his basic world-view that the US is usually at fault, and the US military particularly so—so it's win-win for BO.

Sorry she died—and I'm positive the troops that tried to rescue her feel worse than I do about it. Much worse.

They did their duty and I'm confident their best.....bless em all, without them we would be a lot worse off :salute:

Well considering that there is considerable uncertainty about how she died, I am glad there will be an investigation.
