Wire guided weapons, where is the wire ?
 

I know how works in thery but i never realise how it works in reality, For example were is the wire stored in a torpedo ? inside the tube in a canister ? or is carried by the torpedo itself and is deployed in the run to the target ?

We have found out that there is less drag when the wire is carried by the missile/torpedo

Modern day wire guided munitions actually have a powered roller so that no longer is the wire pulled from the munition (what a drag) but is fed outside as the munition moves. The intent is do keep the wire just slack through the run.

On the Mk 48 torpedo half the wire is half stored in the weapon the other half is in a canister attached to the back of the torpedo that is jettisoned after launch. The canister acts as an anchor point allowing both the sub and the torpedo to move from that point.
