Am I the only person around here who likes "jam bands"?
 

"Jam bands" - Groups that are instrumentally skilled and improvise pretty well, live. Think Phish, the Grateful Dead, the Allman Brothers Band, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Yes, Jimi Hendrix, moe., et al.

I grew up listening to every one of these bands you listed. I have seen Pink Floyd in concert. You are not alone.........

I doubt you grew up listening to Radiohead or moe..!!!

I have heard just about all of them. I have three older siblings. I'm 45. I heard all the stuff from the 60's right up to today with my own two daughters(hip hop/Emo/Rap). My pop was big into music also. Spent many a day listening to Sinatra and Ray Coniff. My college experienced opened more doors to music. Reggea and Latino . Blues (Albert King being my favorite). I have been listening to Bluegrass for a few months now.


The Pink Floyd concert was the Momentary Lapse of Reason Tour. Waters was not part of the band. He left in 1985. The concert was excellent. More songs were played from the album Animals then any other album.

Spent a lot of time at Hammer Jacks here in Baltimore. Seen some bands up and coming. Most not making big. Crack the Sky and Enuffs Enuff for example. Foggy Bottom in Washington was a great place to see up and coming bands. A lot of this was my college days....most of it foggy from the drinking!! :DL

Aaaah!! I also saw the MLOR tour. I saw the second show of the four show run at the Capital Centre. A friend of mine got really, really annoyed at all the people trying to sell him acid!!

I saw the last two Iron Maiden shows at Merriweather. Both were good. I didn't go to the one they just did down at Jiffy Lube Live (with Dream Theater opening!!), though. I am really, REALLY averse to given TicketMaster or LiveNation money, so that limits what I see.

I saw Crack the Sky, I think, at the one of the Earth Day concerts at Merriweather. "Mr. President" seemed very much a Floyd ripoff in its sound.

:haha: We live in the same neck of the woods. I saw Pink Floyd at the Cap Center also. No acid offered to me though! As well as the others on my list I have seen at the Cap Center. Now demolished as you know. I forgot, I did see Tim McGraw at the Nissan Pavilion. Rained like hell. I did make a Greatful Dead concert at JFK Stadium. I went more to see the folks who, 'travel with the dead' and did not go into the show. I was offered weed by a guy on a skateboard as I was hanging out in 'the village'. He had it taped to the bottom of the board. I never did understand those folks that traveled with the dead. Once Garcia died I guess they stopped traveling. :hmmm:

Well, you must have been at Philadelphia in the summer of '87 or '89. I find it odd that someone offered you drugs, actually. Was he actually trying to sell them? That seems far more probable.

As far as following the Dead was concerned...well, if one were a "Trustafarian" going to somewhere like Swarthmore/Bard/Antioch/Reed/Hampshire, etc., and you're some pretty boy (and if you're got a trust fund and go to one of those schools, you almost certainly are)...well, following the Dead would be a smorgasbord of drugs and sex for you. Now the "Trustafarians" follow Phish, Widespread Panic, etc., and they still exist. (I do NOT like these people..) That's just one example..

The only outdoor concert I went to that rained cats and dogs was actually a Dead one in '90.

Oh you reminded me, I did see Joe Walsh in Philly. Good concert also. Got a speeding ticket on the way up! :har:
