The Treaty of Versailles, probably the worst move the Allies made. Still, hindsight and all that.

Pretty much kicked world war into overdrive.

There is controversy on whether the rise of Nazism in Germany was a reaction to the Communist threat coming from the Soviet Union or due to internal causes, namely the Treaty of Versailles, social unrest, and the great depression.

The treaty did not help, but Hitler really became popular only after the great depression hit.

As an aside, we all know Hitler was obsessed with Jews and communists and one of his chief aims in WW2 was to crush the USSR, but I recently realized these two obsessions were linked.

It turns out many of the top leaders of the 1917 Bolshevik revolution, Trotsky, Zinoviev, Kamenev were jewish. Lenin had a jewish grandfather and a large proportion of the Communist party were jewish. Much of the early White anti-Bolshevik propaganda during the Russian Civil War was very anti-semitic and played up the fact that the Bolsheviks were "foreign" because of the religion of the leadership.

Yeap! That's why I said both books must get balanced. Personally I have no problem paying my due but it is fair to want to know what exactly must be paid, eh!

Regarding the rise of the fascist government in Germany, I would say that it was due to the combination of external socialism, internal societal strife, economic hardship and unfair treaties, all of which had been at work in Germany for the decade preceding the rise of Nazisim. In short, it was this climate that enabled the rise of Hitler and the sweeping transformative policies of the National Socialist Party.

It was bad times alright. But just think how swift the rise to power would have been if the aliens had landed at the Reichstag instead of D.C.

Aye.....and Hitler seized the opportunity with both hands.

Just be glad we didn't call in the bailiffs/repo men:D
