Please , Please Help my SH5
Hi guys,
Ive been an avid silent hunter player for many years and Im not unfamiliar to the patience required for tweeking , modding and such but this time Im stumped. I just cant get the game to connect to the net and start. I will give a run down of whats hasppened so far. Initally I baught the game DVD boxed version , brand new , unsealed. I installed the game and everything seemed to go fine. when I clicked on "Play Silent Hunter 5" up came the Game Updater and my browser opened the Ubisoft login page where I created an account. The Updater downloaded a patch wich I then installed it said updating from V1,0 to V1.2. I tried again " Play Silent Hunter " this time up flashed updating Game Launcher. The Game Launcher seemed to update OK. All seems to be going well at this stage but when I try to play the Game I get a Small box in the centre of the screen with a picture of the captain peering through his scope in the bottom centre of the picture is a spinning circle. The circle spins for about a minute then I get a message An internet connection is required to play the game. Failed to connect to the Ubisoft Master servers. Please varify that your internetconnection is functional and try again. Obvoiusly my internet connection is functioning. I thought I might have some other software causing a conflict so I whent and baught a brand new hard drive. I unpluged my old hard drive and installed the new one. I then proceeded to install windows xp , system drivers and the drivers for my video card. Ive updated all drivers to their current versions and tried to install Sh5 again only to be greeted by exactly the same results. Im aware that there could be some server downtime but ive been trying for 4 days and just cant seem to get any further. Ive tried EMailing Ubisoft Tech Support but have received no reply. I should allso mention I am using a router for my internet connection and the detection tool gave me green ticks in all boxes including internet connection. I have previously installed games that require internet , example Battlefield Bad Company 2 and had no problems at all. CAN ANYONE HELP ME PLEASE |
Known causes of such problems include:
- pirated game, - firewall (try switching firewall protetion off and see it game works then), - router settings (it's magic for me...), - antivirus applications (try switching off and see if it helps). Also check this: http://ubisoft-en.custhelp.com/cgi-b...i=&p_topview=1 |
I have had to disable the network devices of my virtualbox too. VMWare and Hamachi could also be responsible to causing errors. You should also make sure your current internet connection is the one with highest priority (which should be default).
If you're using comodo internet security like me you need not to deinstall or disable it at all. Just make your sh5.exe an secure application within comodo security settings page AND tell your firewall the gameupdater (gu.exe) is an trusted application. If you want to play online sh5.exe must also be a trusted application within your firewall. Last tell comodo antivirus not to scan your sh5 directory (performance increase!). This should be the same for other firewalls/antivirus programs. Unfortunately I've had crashes to my desktop as soon as the loading screen was about to change to my sub. I reinstalled windows  and now everything is working well. |
Go into uninstall programs . It might be one of the microsoft C++ installs . Try uninstalling any update ones or others .

Horray ---Thanks Guys
The LINK Von Mumit supplied led me to a solution.
It was my anti virus Zone Alarm. I uninstalled zone alarm and all is fine. Its strange though because it was installed but not on. I knew SubSim would come through , I cant believe I was ignored by UbiSoft when the awnser was there all along. Thanks Agian Stewy |
Glad that you were able to find a solution.
