R.I.P. Korvettenkapitän Oesten

I didn't see any mention of this on the forums, and I just came across the news today. According to his family, Korvettenkapitän Jürgen Oesten passed away peacefully on August 5th of this year.

For those unaware, he was a Knight's Cross winner, the 29th most successful U-boat commander in terms of tonnage sunk, and the technical advisor for SH3.

RIP

Sad how many veterans have died already. Only the youngest during the war have survived till our days. I'm afraid all of them will be gone in a few years but that's just the way it is. We have to live on but that doesn't mean we don't need to remember them!

Korvettenkapitän Jürgen Oesten

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction...The chain reaction of evil...hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars... must be broken, or we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation.-Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

One of the few to start, and end, the war in command of a uboat.

IX driver, and from all appearances, a very good and respectable man.

A fine warrior! You can find more info on this man at http://uboat.net/men/oesten.htm

Good catch Mookie.

His interviews are very interesting. I wonder how many u-boat captains are left?:salute:

That news was indeed bound to happen... But still, I'm at a loss for words.

It is possible that Klemens Schamong may still be alive:
