Ending Career
 

I just got offered a job teaching Submarine tactics in SH4. :-?
I declined and lost a great deal of Renown. If I had accepted would the career ended.

Was this offered to me due to my incompetence at sinking ships?
Or is it by chance?

I ended up starting a new career anyways due to being Stationed in Brisbane in an S class being extremely difficult. I plan to upgrade out of my S class by the time I'm stationed in Australia.

they ask you after they want to give you a promotion. they literally promote you out of the job and end up skippering a desk.

Those offers really suck. I turned down a new sub 3 times in a row wanting to do a complete career in a S class and got retired. Silly.

Course I used my port save and took the new boat so I could go on...but peod that you can't complete a career in the boat of your choice.

History is the answer, the Navy started retiring the S class boats in 1943. when the Gatos finally arrived in number. The Stock game has an end date for the S-18 at 1-1 1944 and the S-42 at 11-20-1945. Some were sent to other countries, used as training boats, coastal defense, or scrapped. The game mechanics seem to end your campaign if you do not have time to do a patrol before the boats were withdrawn.

If you want to keep an S boat try modding the interval date in the sub's upc file.

It's an emulation of history. US Navy sub skippers were typically reassigned from sea duty after so many patrols. ( I think 5 to 6 patrols) After the patrol limit was reached for a skipper, they would rotate him out to shore duty as a matter of policy.

So to remain in command, you'd have to have some serious clout with your superiors to remain as an active boat captain. Hence, the loss of renown. You used it, pulling some strings, to stay in command despite the rotation policy.

Ah that explains it. What happens if you don't have enough renown? I lost around 1k renown I believe.

I believe you are retired if you can't "afford" to stay at sea.

FYI, I just remembered, i made the rank descriptions with this rotation policy in mind. Read them sometime, i thought it was hilarious.
