This Is England '86

Anyone watch it? Just been on Channel 4 for us Brits, other peeps may be able to get it on 4od. Though it was awesome, and it's all filmed in Sheffield!!! In fact some of it was right at the bottom of my Grandad's road :D Bring on next Tuesday!!!

Penguin 09-09-10 06:41 AM

Thanks for the tip , didn't know the series already started airing. As I was in England for the first time in '86 it does bring back some good memories for me :yep:
A tip for the non-Brits/non-Irish: Channel 4 on demand does a proxy check to make sure you're from the islands...

Tribesman 09-09-10 08:38 AM

How does it develop?
The "this is england" was good as it envoloped the rise of the same gombeens that you see nowadays with the EDL(the same racist gob****es that aere making an issue over the non existant ground zero mosque)

que?
it's a tip for all us terrorists who cannot watch channel 4, didn't want to write it so clearly due to this board's stance on copyright issues - though watching isn't copying imo and using a british proxy not forbidden in the EU (yet)

you mean the Millwall Bushwackers? what do we have to do with them?

the film/series isn't solely about racism, it's also a film about youth subcultures - from what I heard especially the '86 part

So...."How does it develop?"
In the original you had an immigrant decendant who hated immigrants to an extreme level.

Do you know the crowd?
If so what has it to do with me?

So how does it develop?
After all that is the question I asked?

If I remember correctly the black guy wasn't hating immigrants, but some members of his crew did so - have to rewatch it however as i was piss drunk when I watched the film ;)

You asked me and ajrimmer for a solution - so I tried to figure out for what problem and what you meant by bushwackers and the rest. Yep, they're known on the continent. I prefer to drink with the ultras from my local football club - more likeable mates!

I cannot tell you about the developement, as I will watch the series when all parts are available - I tend to do marathons when watching tv shows.
However the development should be interesting as...

SPOILER

... the main protagonist throws away his England-Patch, after his black friend has been beaten down by members of his own crew, suggesting that he will walk a different path now

You missed a main twist in the plot concerning the crazy nationalist fella in the film that bears a passing resemblance to craig charles.

The point being that there is no practicable solution.

SPOILER
thats the original film isn't it?

Penguin 09-09-10 02:31 PM

hmm, I didn't notice that the guy who came from the nick was also of foreign ancestry :o. Had to google Craig Charles, but indeed - the nationalist bloke looks like this pale twin brother :haha:
but as I said I was unsober when watching it, together with german dubbing which caused many laughs :har:

yeah, the spoiler was about the original film - don't want to tell anybody the end who hasn't seen it.

Herr-Berbunch 09-09-10 03:06 PM

Shhhh, don't tell me anything, I've taped it - and the film the night before! :yep:

In fact I've got it recorded onto HDD, so why do will still say taped? Or is that just me? :hmmm:
