circles around aircraft

I was unable to find an answer using the search function.

Playing RFB2 + RSRD

When an aircraft is sighted there are two circles around the aircraft. One small and the other much larger. What do they represent?

I think one circle (the larger one) stands for the span of its sensor range and the other one (smaller one) stands for the span of its visual range. Somebody correct me If I'm wrong.

I always try to dive before my sub is inside the circle...

I've never seen a circle.

I don't think the aircraft have any sensors other than the eyeball.

What is interesting is that when I zoom in, the smaller inner circle seems to say the same size which does not make sense. Normally when you zoom in stuff gets bigger.

and the larger circle seems awfully big for a visual range.

Visual range from an aircraft? I can see Mt. Taylor out my front window, and that's over 85 miles away. My house is about 1500' above town in the foothills. From the crest (~5000 ft above town) I can see considerably farther.

Is the circle much bigger than 100 nm?

Never seen a circle around a plane in RFB. Not once.

Only on EZ mode, maybe?

What year is it. Some planes have radar. Still, I've never seen circles around planes. Maybe they were there in stock, but I don't recall that they were.

I have map contacts on. I wonder if it is from RSRD?

tater 09-07-10 09:17 PM

I use RSRDC, and that's a sub thing, not a plane thing, so it's not in RSRDC.

Dunno, never saw it, myself. Sounds like the stock game sensor range circle thingies (which have been turned off so long for me I've sort of forgotten them).

One circle will be radar. The other will be the visual sensor.

Which one is which i have no idea where RFB is concerned. But, given all the factors invovled it would not be unusual to see a visual sensor have a 20 to 30KM radius, and only have an effective detection range of 16 to 18KM or something like that.

Ok. But can you see the sub on the top? :hmmm:

:D

I have never seen such circles while playing RFB/RSRDC but I think they were present when I was playing TMOwTw. I do remember seeing circles around some of the aircraft, similar to the circles accompanying the DDs.
Don't remember seeing more than 1 circle around any planes in stock.
