Taxing internet purchases.

Most of what I buy over the internet are rare, hard-to-find items. As an example, I recently purchased a specific recording of Rienzi that I had been seeking for a few years. I also buy most computer components and games online, as the selection is better, and I'll continue to do that. Outside of those things, I have always tried to support local 'brick-and-mortar' as much as possible.

I chose "Phone In My Order", as it was closest to how I feel. I'm not sure what path I'll actually take though. I'll probably have to see what my options are in each case.

Tough call though.

But I'm sure you smart guys have thought of that.

Yes, it does. But just as your telephone operation trumps an internet outfit in terms of employment volume, so does my brick-and-mortar trump your telephone operation.

I hadn't thought about it at all. I was looking at the situation as it directly affects me.

I also missed your note on states that have already put it into law. Here in Utah we have a state sales tax. I was thinking on a national level. If it gets applied to the internet here it probably wouldn't change my habits at all. I already pay a sales tax on everything else; if it was applied to the internet as well I'll probably take it in stride and not think about it again.

I do seem to recall it being brought up in the past, now that you mention it, and some debate locally as to whether people would fight it or not. I don't remember much about it though.

In Virginia we already have a tax on out of state purchases (phone or internet). The problem is the enforcement and collection of those taxes.

I am afraid that the only way to enforce this sales tax is to collect it at the time of purchase... which adds to the expense of collecting taxes and to the expense of doing business. :yep:

Isn't this thread a bit pointless now that Thirdman has edited all his posts.

Makes no sense, no context.

I have placed two of my attackers on the ignore list. The other attacker cannot be placed on the list because he is a big dog at Subsim.
