A great shot went bad.

I have been playing RFB for several years now and today I experienced something for the first time. Right before I went to work I lined up a shot at a freighter and fired two torpedoes. The first one ran low and hit dead center, and split the ship in half. I was rushed so I saved the game and left for work. One odd thing was the ship sunk message came before the torpedo impact. That was the good.

The bad happened when I got home. The game does not like it when you break a ship in half and save. It crashes in SHCollisions.act Now instead of adding a keel shot kill, I have to start the patrol over like it never happened.

In an rare moment of good sense I did take screen shots of the kill before I shut down the game.

You got a sunk message before the torpedo hit and then it crashed?

Sounds like a bug to me. Seems like many of the merchants I sink break in two and never had a problem saving, but play TMO.

Maybe the enemy is so scared of you they know they're sunk before the torps hit...:yeah:

I have to concur with Armistead. It sounds as if something was wrong to begin with. Maybe just a bad load, uhhh, the game I mean. On rare occasion, I've had similar weird things occur and chalked it up to the game loading while Windows or some other app was auto-updating. Haven't experienced a game crash from it but, have had things change on reloading the save.

I managed to do the exact same shot again, with the exact same result. However, this time I had the day off and could continue playing. I watched the two sections sink and continued on and a good save was possible. Any save before the split ship sinks crashes SHCollisions.act
