I've Got a Beef....

OK...So I start a patrol last night (from the Patrol Menu) "FBM 431203 SS280 - Bungo Straits". Time is 00:00 on 12/28/1943. So I start preparing for the upcoming action...Check the crew slots, see what torps I'm outfitted with, the radar, sonar, etc., etc. Time passes...

Time is still passing....Some more...

After a few hours I'm getting a little "antsy". Some more time passes....and so on....

FOR OVER 24 FREAKIN' HOURS AND STILL... NOTHING..!!

Couldn't the @$#!#** developers get some action going within the first few hours..?? Even with TC it still takes some time before anything happens....(I saved the patrol to pick up where I left off last night. Hopefully tonight I can at least submerge...) I've seen this happen in other missions/patrols, but not for over 24 hours..!!
Is there some tweaking I can do to the patrol file to get the action going..??

Running V1.5 & RSRDC..

Sailor Steve 07-28-10 10:07 PM

RSRDC is a realism campaign mod. With it the game isn't about "getting the action going", it's about experiencing what a submarine captain had to actually go through. It's possible to spend several weeks of game time without ever seeing an enemy ship.

It doesn't happen often, but it does happen.

Deephunter 07-28-10 10:28 PM

I can understand the intent. But the RL captain had a real ship to manage whereas we are somewhat limited to what can actually be done onboard. Watching minutes and hours go by leaves something to be desired. If an engagement took place at 14:00, why not start the sim at 11 or 12:00..??

Is this a single mission, sounds like it, cuz they usually put you in the action fairly quick.

24 hours isn't a long time, crank up the TC.

In campaign mode I have gone 2-3 weeks without a ship, but I would never play without RSRD as I like the correct historical shipping and TF.
The battles are great.

It sounds like he's referring to the "War Patrol" missions. At least, that's my impression of it. Though I don't think the action starts right away with all of those.

Finding action in 24 hours is quick for me, going a month can be tiresome at times.:haha:

It is a war patrol. I do crank up TC, but only to 60's +/-. I don't like to go any higher than that when in "enemy territory" since I might run into something, and find myself heading for the bottom before I'm even aware of it...I do go higher (512-1024) when heading out or returning to PH...

Which war patrol mission?

FYI, you can go to a higher TC even in enemy territory. The game will automatically drop you down to a much lower level (usually 8x, sometimes 4x) when enemy units are detected or are reported nearby. So you can use higher than 60x TC.

While this is true, many a skipper has come out of TC in this fashion to the sound of "Ship Spotted...We have flooding, sir!"

Absolutely.:yep: Has happened to me more than once. I once heard a faint, quick, buzzing noise in high TC, sorta like the sound a mosquito makes. When I switched back to normal time, I heard, "Where taking damage Sir! We have flooding Sir!":damn:

Why that can happen, it's very rare. I've never had it happen when my radar/sonar is working. However, it can happen early war, moreso with mods like TMO when you don't have radar. It also can be a problem if your air radar is damaged. If I have everything working, I'll run at high TC and it always falls back to 8x once a contact is made. For most you'll get a lag anyway when the enemy comes within your best contact zone before your crew or equipment gets a contact. This is when I come out of high TC and find use sonar to find the enemy.

Course how we define enemy territory is another question. I do slow down to 1500 or so near straits, ports, ect...but I ain't running around the pacific at low TC.

You won't be running around the pacific at 10 knots cruising speed either after next update.

Deephunter 07-30-10 05:41 PM
